Man held while entering Bangladesh illegally

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) arrested a man while he was entering the country illegally from Lebutala Royel Mastar Ghat in Maheshpur upazila early Wednesday. A patrol team of BGB’s Jululi border outpost conducted a drive in the area and arrested the man. He was entering the country from India without valid documents, said Qamrul Hasan, additional director of BGB-58 Khalishpur Battalion. The arrestee, who has not been named, was handed over to Maheshpur Police Station.
Aman Rice, Paddy purchase begins in Mymensingh
MYMENSINGH: Directorate of Food has started purchasing T Aman rice and Paddy directly from the farmers in Muktagacha upazila of the district on Tuesday. State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid MP inaugurated the programme at a simple function held at Muktagacha upazila food go down this morning. Upazila Nirbahi Officer, Muktagacha Shubarna Sarker ,District Food Officer Zahangir Alam,Upazila Vice Chairman Mohammad Arab Ali ,Upazila Food Officer Shafiul Afzal Union Parishad Chairmen and local elite among others were present. State Minister in his inaugural speech said, the present government under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is committed to ensure fair price of Aman rice for the farmers. He hoped that Aman farmers of the upazila would get fair price through the programme initiated by the government . Upazila Food Office sources told BSS that Department Of Food finalized the list of farmers through lottery. A total of 3,379 farmers would sale per kilogram of Aman rice at Tk 36 and per kilogram of paddy at TK 26 directly at the upazila go down, reports BSS.
School girl rescued from early marriage
SIRAJGANJ: Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md Anisur Rahman foiled an attempted early marriage for a schoolgirl in the district on Wednesday. Mobile court sources said acting on a tip-off, members of the law enforcement agencies went to Goyla Dakkhinpara of Sirajganj municipal area in the afternoon where arrangements were underway to marry off the 13-year-old 8th grader to a boy aged 20 of the same area. The mobile court stopped the marriage. At the same time, the father and the mother of the bride and the bridegroom signed an undertaking promising not to marry off their children before they both turn adults. Fahima Al Ashraf, Programme officer of Department of Women Affairs, Nazrul Islam, Assistant Municipal Land officer and Ansar battalion members were part of the mobile court team, reports UNB.
Illegal brick kilns dismantled in Savar
SAVAR: Mobile court of Department of Environment (DOE) in a drive dismantled 3 illegal brick kilns on the banks of river Turag here on Wednesday. A team led by DOE executive magistrate Maksudul Islam conducted the drive at Turag area of Aminbazar of Savar in the afternoon. Local police and fire service members were present at this time. Maksudul Islam informed that the drive was carried out in Aminbazar area at the directive of the High Court. At this time, Titas Bricks, Mitali Bricks and MSM Bricks were torn down for not having DOE clearance certificate. At the same time, the owners of those brick kilns were fined a total of Tk 15 lakh, Tk 5 lakh from each. Maksudul also informed that the drive will continue. Locals claimed that there are a huge number of brick fields in operation right under the noses of the administration on the banks of the Turag in Aminbazar. Some dishonest businessmen set up the fields beside agricultural land polluting the environment, they alleged. They are also urging the administration to demolish the brick fields immediately. Meanwhile, the owners said that they are facing problems with raw bricks. Besides, they are in debt owing lakhs to the banks, and in this situation their fields have been destroyed, reports UNB.
