Police in a driver arrested two people reportedly along with Tk 2.34 lakh in fake notes from Islampur Bazar in the city on Saturday. The arrestees were identified as Siraj Gazi, 47, son of late Harun Gazi of Chandpur Sadar upazila, and Shahnur Alam Sabbir, 19, son of Shahjahan Mia of Sadipur village in Osmaninagar upazila Under Sylhet District. A police team, led by sub-inspector Enayetullah of Shahporan Police Station, stopped an auto-rickshaw on Sylhet-Tamabil highway, said Jedan Al Musa, additional deputy commissioner (media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police. During search, fake notes were recovered from their bags. Twenty Yaba pills were also seized from them, he said. The arrestees confessed to their involvement in fake currency and drug peddling, Jedan said, adding that police have launched drives to arrest other gang members.
Youth held for raping teenage girl
A young man has been held for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl at Monaharpur village of Biswanath upazila Under Sylhet District recently. The arrestee was identified as Jamil Mia, 21, son of Nur Uddin of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj. Family members said Jamil, a distant relative, had been in love affairs with the girl. He came to visit the victim’s place and stayed there. At around 12am on Friday, family members woke up hearing screams from the girlÕs room. They rushed to the room and caught Jamil red-handed. After giving him good thrashing, they handed him over to police. The victim filed a case with Biswanath Police Station.
Cake festival held in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A cake festival organised by district police was held at district police lines. Whip of the Jatiya Sangshad and local lawmaker Mahabub Ara Begum Gini inaugurated the festival as the chief guest while superintendent of police (SP) Towhidul Islam presided over the festival that took place on Tuesday. Bangladesh is called the country of ‘Pitha-Puli’ and the pitha is a part food culture of Bangladeshi cuisine, said Whip Mahabub Ara Begum Gini, in her speech, adding although the Bengalis enjoy different types of pithas all the year round, but winter is the best season of pithas. District and sessions judge Dilip Kumar Bhoumik, deputy commissioner Abdul Matin and civil surgeon Dr ABM Abu Hanif were present at the event as the special guests. A large number of district level officials, public representatives, political leaders, civil society members and journalists of print and electronic media, took part in the festival., reports BSS.
One held with Yaba tablets in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive arrested a drug peddler with yaba tablets in Dewanganj upazila of the district on Monday night. The arrested drug peddler was identified as Palin Bokharia,20, son of Md Nur Islam of village Kalikapur in Dewanganj Upazila of the district. Jamalpur RAB-14 sources said acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force raided Chikajani area and arrested Palin. RAB members recovered 77 pieces of yaba tablets from his possession. A case was filed with Dewanganj model police station, reports BSS
