Students’ council election held in Sylhet

Students’ council election was held at all primary schools of Sylhet district on Tuesday amid much enthusiasm. The objective of the council election is to help students flourish their leadership talents from childhood. District primary education officer Hozrat Ali said the students’ council works as the voice of the students and it is formed through an electoral process to make them aware about their responsibility. Students from class 3 to class 5 exercised their right to franchise to elect seven representatives at the beginning of each year to speak about their benefits at students’ council meetings, he also said.
Two JCD leaders sent to jail
Sylhet Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Wednesday sent two Jatiyabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leaders of Sylhet metropolitan unit to jail over JCD leader Jillul Rahman Jilu murder case. Sources concerned said that former President of Madanmohan College Kazi Meraz and city unit leader Jamal Ahmed Khan sought bail in the case appearing before the 3rd Metropolitan Magistrate Court on the day, but the Magistrate rejected their bail prayers and ordered to send them to jail. The two were also suspended from JCD activities last year over the incident. A police source said that Jillul Rahman Jilu, former JCD President of Govindaganj Degree College unit, was seriously injured after he was attacked at Pathantula point at 7:00pm on June 27, 2014. He was then rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital, upon which the on-duty doctor declared him dead.
3 arrested with gold bars in Tangail

Police in a drive arrested three alleged gold smugglers and recovered 12 gold bars worth about Taka 40 lakh from Karmokarpatti area on the Kalibari road under Mirzapur upazila of the district on Wednesday night. The arrested were Korban Ali, 65, Arif Hossain, 28, of Takibari-Chandpur village under Kaliakoir upazila in Gazipur district and Habibur Rahman, 25, of Rajabari village under Sakhipur upazila in Tangail district. On a tip-off, a team of police from Mirzapur thana conducted the drive in the area and arrested them with the gold bars, said Sub-Inspector (SI) of the thana Safikul Alam.
Bus set on fire in Bogra

Miscreants set a bus on fire at Charmtha Bhaber Bazar on the Dhaka-Bogra highway in the district town on Wednesday night.Witnesses said some unidentified miscreants torched the bus parked in the area at about 10:00 pm. Informed, a firefithing unit rushed in and doused the blaze. However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Abul Bashar confirmed the incident.
BGB seizes Indian goods worth Tk 1.26 cr

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Wednesday seized smuggled Indian goods worth Tk 1, 26, 08,000 raiding an area at Amrakhali under Sharsha upazila in Jessore, said Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion. The BGB CO told that raiding an area at Amrakhali under Benapole Port police station the BGB personnel seized smuggling goods worth Tk 1, 26, 08,000. ‘The goods include lifting belts, gloves, safety shoes and other goods’, the BGB official added. But none was rounded up in connection with the operation.
