Workshop on Biofortified zinc paddy held in Rajshahi

A workshop on the orientation and marketing of Biofortified zinc paddy was organised by Harvest Bangladesh in the Green City Hall Room of Rajshahi on Monday. Dr Md Khairul Bashar, Country Manager of Harvest Plus Bangladesh inaugurated the workshop on Monday afternoon. Harvest Plus is based at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) and collaborates with multiple CGIAR centers and partner organizations. Dr. Md. Khairul Bashar is moderator and President of the programme . The five Biofortified zinc as BRRI Paddy-12, BRRI Paddy-3, BRRI Paddy-2, BRRI-3 and BRRI-4 – were donated by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute. He also said that the expenditures for vitamin and mineral deficit in Bangladesh GDP every year about 4 billion taka in Bangladeshi money. However, 4 per cent of the teenagers in the age group of 4-5 years are getting short of zinc and to solve this, 100 million people who eat rice of zinc varieties every day can meet the demand of 5 per cent zinc. Besides, Harvest Plus’s lead system specialist Md. Mujibur Rahman, Syed Md. Abu Hanifa, Project coordinator of Harvest Plus Bangladesh and among others, scientists from Rajshahi department, policy makers, top officials of rice and rice marketing companies attended it.
Food Security, Nutrition Fair inaugurated in Rampal

A two day- long Nutrition and Food Security Fair was held at Rampal on Tuesday. A project named “SaFal Project” arranged the Fair which was assisted by two NGO’s named Solidaidad and Uttaran. Upazilla Chairman and newly -elected Awami League Secretary of Rampal Upazilla inaugurated the Fair. To celebrate the fair, a colorful rally was brought out that paraded the main area of Rampal Upazilla. Later, a discussion meeting on food security and nutrition was held in Upazilla Parishad premise. Presided over by UNO , Rampal Tushar Kumar Paul, Upazilla Chairman addressed the Fair as Chief Guest. Upazilla Mohila Vice Chairman Hosneara Mily was present as Chief Guest. Upazilla Krishi Officer Krishna Rani Mondol, Project Manager of Solidaridad Int. Suria Khatun, Project Manager of Uttaran Md. Iqbal Hossain delivered speech on the occasion. Rampal Press Club Secretary Md. Saiful Alam, Goutam Kumar Ghosh, beneficiaries of the project and a good number of farmers were also present .
Youth commits suicide in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI : A young man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his house over family feud at Kayerdara Bilpara in the city on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Toufique, 26, son of Mohammad Ali. Additional deputy-commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Golam Ruhul Kuddus said Toufique and his wife used to lock into altercation over family issues. On Tuesday, Toufique’s father-in-law came and took his daughter to their home following an altercation. When Toufique’s relatives entered his house they found him hanging from the ceiling. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy, reports UNB.
