Minor girl drowns in Netrakona

A minor girl drowned in a pond at Dattokunia village in Purbadhala upazila on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Tanisha Akhter, 3, hailed from the village. Police said Tanisha drown in the pond adjacent to their house when she was playing beside the pond .Family members found her floating body at around 10 am. She was brought at Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex where the duty doctor declared her dead.
Two held with 60-kg ganja in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-13) seized 60-kilograms of ganja and arrested two alleged drug traders from Nabdiganj point on the Rangpur-Kurigram highway on Thursday morning. “An operational team of RAB-13, Rangpur battalion headquarters on suspicion searched a truck and seized the ganja from the possessions of two persons ,” said a press release issued by Media Officer of the battalion Major Galib Muhammad Natikur Rahman. The elite force seized huge consignment of specially packed 13 sacks of ganja and two mobile phone sets from the possessions of the two arrested persons . The arrested drug traders could be identified as Abu Taleb Mandal, 38, of village Madhupur (Mandalpara) in Sadar upazila of Kusthia and Zerman Ali, 42, of village Ramchandrapur (Dakshinpara) in Shoilakupa upazila of Jhenaidah districts. In the preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed their involvement in trafficking drugs and narcotics substances to different parts of the country in disguise of the goods for a long, the release added. A case was filed and the alleged drug handed over to Mahiganj thana police under Rangpur Metropolitan Police in this connection, reports UNB.
Training on use of bio- pesticides held at BARI

The Entomology Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has arranged a day-long teacher’s training workshop titled ‘Insects and disease management using bio pesticides based technology in fruits and vegetables’ at the institute’s Seminar Room on Friday . A total of 105 teachers from 15 schools and madrashash under Ward No 23 of Gazipur City Corporation participated in the training workshop. BARI Director General Dr Abul Kalam Azad inaugurated the workshop as Chief Guest while Chief Scientific Officer of Entomology Division Dr Debashish Sarker presided over the function. BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr Babu Lal Nag and Chief Scientific Officer of Plant Pathology Division Dr Firoza Khatun were present as special guest. Scientists and officials from various divisions of BARI were also present on the occasion. Senior Scientific Officer of Entomology Division Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman Sarkar conducted the function.
