A sector commander level conference between the frontier forces of the two neighbourning countries- Bangladesh and India was held at Benapole , Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer, 26 Border Guard Battalion confirmed New Nation during a short break of the conference. Talking to New Nation, the BGB CO told that trans-border killings, smugglings, trafficking in persons and some other bilateral issued was being focused in the conference that was continuing till 5:45pm. The conference was begun at around 11 am at the headquarters of the BGB at Benapole, BGB sources said. BSF officials led by Arbind Singha, Acting Sector Commander, Kolkata BSF were accorded welcome by the BGB on arrival on the no-man’s land earlier. BGB officials who took part the conference include Colonel Khalilur Rahman, sector commander, BGB, Khulna, Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, CO, 26 Border Guard Battalion, Lt Col Abdur Rahim, CO, 23 Border Guard Battalion, Lt Col Azizul Islam, CO, 34 Border Guard Battalion, Lt Col Shahidur Rahman, staff officer, Khulna, Major Nazir Ahmed Bakshi, acting commanding officer, 38 Border Guard Battalion, Major ATM Ahsan Habib, staff officer and Lt Commander Shah Kamruzzaman, staff officer, BGB.
RUTA protests political violence

Rajshahi University Teachers’ Association (RUTA), an elected body of around 1200 teachers of the university, yesterday urged the all political parties in the country to take effective measures for the end of existing countrywide political violence. About 200 teachers formed a human chain held in front of the university senate building at around 11:15am. They protested the current instability in the country and all types of violence in the name of democratic movement. They also expressed their deep concern over the countrywide violence, killing of innocent people by setting on fire, dead lock in public life and educational institutions. RUTA demanded the concerned authorities for immediate normalcy in all walks of life otherwise the country might have to pay a huge cost for the long- term.
Among others, RUTA President and SDecretary Kamrul Hasan Majumdar and Pranab Kumar Pandey respectively, Prof Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Convener of white panel Prof Dr Md. Azhar Al were present in the human chain.
Eve-teasing prevention, legal aid camp in Barisal

Bangladesh Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) on Monday held eve-teasing prevention and legal aid camp in Barisal city. The eve teasing prevention camp under legal literacy session held at Oxford Mission School and the legal aid camp held at Razzak Colony of ward-10 under Barisal City Corporation with the financial assistances from Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). The programmes were conducted and addressed by Advocate Munira Begum, Kamrunnahar Tanu, Keka Ansari, Masuk Kamal of BNWLA, Polonius Guda, headmaster, Dipali Bain, Samir Kumar Roy, teachers of Oxford Mission School and participated by stake holders. The speakers at programme under legal literacy session against eve teasing said Bangladesh, a developing country, though holding quite a small area is flooded with uncountable problems. Among these, eve-teasing, recently has become the burning issue for the country because of its adverse effects on women, especially to the teenage girls.
