One held with 2.450 kg heroin in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested an alleged drug-peddler with 2.450 kilograms of heroin in the district this afternoon. The arrestee was Monirul Islam Bablu, 50, of Hatnabad village under Godagari Upazila, RAB officials said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Mohandarga area under the same upazila around 2.45 pm today and seized the huge contraband items from his possession. The RAB team detained the man for his alleged involvement in heroin trading and trafficking, A case was filed with Godagari Police Station in this connection reports BSS.
Distressed women get cheques in Khulna
KHULNA: The Government has distributed cheques among the financially distressed for Volunteer Women Associations of ten districts under Khulna division Wednesday afternoon. Volunteer Association has received a total of 124 cheques amounting to TK 27.45-lakh at a distribution ceremony held at Circuit House . Khulna District Administration and Department of Women Affairs jointly organised the ceremony where Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Helal Hossain attended the function as chief guest. Chaired by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ziaur Rahman, the function was addressed, among others, by Deputy Director of Department of Women Affairs (DWA) Nargis Fatema Zamin, Chairman of National Women Institute Khulna Syeda Hosne Ara Runu, Deputy Director of DWA Jashore Sokina Khatun and Freedom Fighter Mohammad Alamgir Hossain. DC Helal said the present government has taken many steps for the welfare of the poor and underprivileged people to change their socio -economic conditions. “Considering their vulnerable condition, the government has also launched allowance programme for them,” he added, reports BSS.
