BRU demands implementation of wage board

The members of Barisal Reporters Unity (BRU)on Wednesday noon observing 15th founding anniversary BRU asked for immediate implementation of wage board and unity among the journalists. A discussion presided by Nazrul Bishwas, President BRU , was arranged on this occasion at BRU premises. It was addressed among others by Abul Kalam Azad, Former President, Pulak Chatterjee, Secretary Barisal Press Club, Kazi Miraj, Mir Maniruzzaman, Editors of regional daily Ajker Paribarton and Satya Sangbad, Humayun Kabir and Bidhan Sarkar, President and Vice President of TV Journalist Association, Mokhlesur Rahman, Enayet Hossain Chowdhury, MG Kabir Vulu, leaders of Muktijoddha Sangsad, Bappi Majumdar, Secretary, Kamrul Hasan, Kamal Masudur Rahman, Anisur Rahman Swapan, Sushanta Ghosh, members BRU. The speakers demanded immediate implementation of wage boards for the journalists, especially who working outside Dhaka to create professional dignity, job security and job satisfaction. They also called for unity among the different journalist groups and organizations to achieve their legitimate rights and prevent oppression against freedom of speech and journalists. The programme was ended by observing one-minute silence for the departed souls of the dead journalists and cutting cakes.
Son kills father in Sylhet

A son allegedly killed his father soaking in water on Wednesday afternoon at Shahapur village under Goainghat upazila in Sylhet. The deceased Sona Mia, 60, was sent to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Killer Shamim Ahmed, 25, surrendered before the Goainghat police after the incident. Police said that the two went to work in the field near the swamp in the morning and eventually locked in an argument at 12:00pm over money for Shamim’s going abroad. At one stage of their altercation, Shamim killed his father soaking in water on the spot. OC of Goainghat Police Station confirmed the incident.
Sylhet road crash kills 2, injures 3
Three people were killed and three others injured in a collision between a bus and a covered ban at Sat Mile on Sylhet-Dhaka highway on Thursday morning. The dead were identified as van driver Ujjal, 35, and passenger Mahbub, 38. The injured were a covered van passenger and two bus passengers. They were admitted to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital. Dakshin Surma Police said the accident took place at about 10am, killing two on the spot.
Old man killed over land dispute in Bhairab

An old man was stabbed to death by his rival groups at Sreenagar Bazar in Bhairab town of Kishoreganj district on Wednesday afternoon over land dispute. The victim was identified as Md Nazimuddin (70) in Sreenagar Purbapara village under Bhairab upazila. On information police, recovered the dead body and sent to Kishoreganj Modern Hospital for autopsy. Additional Police Super (Crime) Syed Aby Sayem visited the spot.
