Awareness meet of Char dwellers held in Kurigram

A sharing meeting promoting social awareness of Char Dwellers was held in Kurigram on Wednesday noon. It was arranged by Friendship inclusive citizenship sector with an aim to raise social awareness among the people of char areas in Bangladesh including Kurigram. Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Kurigram Md Hafizur Rahman was chief guest where Inclusive Citizenship Director Aysha Tasin Khan presided over the meeting. The meeting was held at `Swopno Kuri’ Auditorium under Kurigram District Administration. Subdistrict Chairman, Chairmen and members of different unions, other distinguished government officials, journalists of print and electronic media, members of the civil society and representatives of other development organisations were actively participated in the meeting on the day. The char communities with the formal legal system along with Friendship’s holistic and innovative approach to provide various services was upheld through different presentations and discussions. Pouro Mayor Md. Abdul Jalil, Sadar Family Planning Officer Dr. Nazrul Islam, Inclusive Citizenship DGM Ahmed Toufikur Rahman, Senior Manager Abu Mohammad Shihab, Senior Manager of Inclusive Citizenship Rifat Zinat Zahan, Manager Mahabubar Rahman Bhuyan and Field Operation Rafikuzzaman, among others were present at the meeting.
Eye camp held in Chandpur

A day long ‘Free Eye Camp’ was held at Char Kashim Government Primary School in Ekhlaspur Union under Matlab Uttar Upazila recently. Expert doctors Dr Sk Anwar Hossain and Dr Rashedur Rahman at Chandpur Mazharul Huque BNSB Eye Hospital conducted the operations. 52 serious eye patients of this eye camp have regained their eye sight. They were given spectacles free of cost. Chandpur Rotary Club organised the camp with logistic supports of Chandpur Mazharul Huque BNSB Eye Hospital and in collaboration with the local Eye Camp Committee led by noted social worker Adv Sharif Mahmud Ferdous Shahin. A team of experts led by eye specialist Dr Hanifur Rahman of Chandpur Mazharul Huque BNSB Eye Hospital conducted the eye camp .Over five hundred poor men and women of Char Kashem and adjacent areas in Ekhlaspur union of the Upazila were treated and necessary medicines were provided to them free of cost. Rotary Club Secretary Adv Sharif Mahmud Ferdous Shahin has told this correspondent that Chandpur Rotary Club has a plan to organise a few more eye camps this season at rural areas in the district for poor people having eye troubles. Rotary Club members – Chandpur District Bar Association’s General Secretary Advocate Shahadat Hossain , journalist and writer Kazi Shahadat, social workers- Tamal Kumar Ghose, Adv Syedul Islam Babu, Alhaj Abul Kashem, Md Mafij uddin Sarker, Md Nasiruddin, Advocate Polash Majumder, local pressmen and elites of the union were present on the occasion.
