Legal Aid body meeting held

Kishoregnaj district legal-aid committee arranged a monthly meeting at District Judge Court Conference Hall on Wednesday. District & Session Judge Md. Mahabub-ul Islam presided over the meeting. Special Judge (Women & Children) Sadik Golam Sarowar, C.J.M Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan and A.D.M Rabiul Alam were attended as special guest. It was address among others by Additional Police Super Syed Abu Sayem, District Bar President & P.P. Advocate Shah Azizul Hoque, Senior Advocate Dolon Bhumik, Saiful Quddess of POPI, Deputy Jailer Saiful Islam, Special P.P. Jatka, nets seized for violating restriction on hilsa catching

Law enforcers operating drives seized about 2,800 Kg (70 mounds) fishes worth Tk. 5.6 lakhs and 1.5 lakh meter current nets worth Tk 4 lakhs from Arial Kha River in Barisal on Wednesday for violating eight months restriction against netting Jatka (Hilsa-fry). However none was arrested during this drive. Aminul Huq, commander of Coast Guard zonal command in Barisal, said Coast Guard operating drives early Wednesday to late morning on Arial Kha River seized those amounts of Jatka and nets. However the fishermen from the spot leaving the Jatka and nets, the CG official said. The seized Jatka and nets later brought to CG Barisal base at Rasulpur area of the city. The seized Jatka were distributed to different orphanages and madrasas through district fishery office and the seized nets burnt in presence of the administrative and fishery officials, the CG official added. Bimal Chandra Das, officer (Hilsa) of fishery directorate Barisal office, said an eight months country-wide ban from November 1 to June 30 against catching, transportation and marketing ‘Jatka'(hilsa fry less than 10 inch or 26 centimeters in length ) to increase hilsa-resources has been started. Bazlur Rashid, deputy director and divisional fishery officer, said that this year around 1.6 crore mother hilsa safely and naturally laid 49,000 kg of eggs and if half of the laid eggs can become embryo, 31 crores of hilsa renu (pollen) will be made and if 10 percent of the pollen survives, 4 crore Jatka (fry) could be produced.
Petrol bombs, yaba recovered in Sylhet

RAB-9 in separate drives recovered five petrol bombs and 140 pieces of Yaba tablets from Monday night to Tuesday afternoon in the city. A team of RAB-9 conducted a drive in Malnichhora Tea Garden area in the afternoon and recovered five petrol bombs on roadside in abandoned condition and handed over those to Airport Police Station, a press release said. They also arrested a man along with 140 pieces of Yaba pills and Tk 16 thousand in cash in a drive in Ahmedpur Residential Area under Dakkhin Surma Upazila on Monday night around 11:30pm. Arrested Shahid Mia, 30, son of Dula Mia, hailed from Shahrasti Upazila under Chandpur district, handed over to Dakkhin Surma Police Station on Tuesday morning, the press release added.
Bombs exploded in Sylhet
Shibir exploded three crude bombs Kumarpara and Bandarbazar area in Sylhet city on Wednesday.Officer-in-charge Kowtualy Police Station said Shibir activists threw three crude bombs in the Kumarpara and Bandarbazar area in Sylhet city at about 10:00 am and 2:00 pm. However, no one was injured in the bomb blast, two arrested in connection with the incident.
