798 cartons cigarette seized at Sylhet Airport

Customs Intelligence officials seized 798 cartons of foreign cigarette from the luggage of three passengers at Sylhet Osmani International Airport on Sunday. Custom Super of the airport Abdul Motaleb said a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines BG-224 landed at the airport around 7 am.A team of Customs Intelligence officials searched the luggage of three passengers- Osman Faruk of Habiganj, Raihan, 23 of Feni and Mohamamd Mamun of Chattogram district, of the flight and recovered the cigarettes.

ACC opens office in Noakhali

NOAKHALI: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday opened its district coordinated office in Noakhali aims at coordinated the commission’s activities in Noakhali, Laxmipur and Feni districts. ACC Commissioner AFM Aminul Islam inaugurated a three-storey new building, constructed for the ACC’s district coordinated office, by unveiling the plaque and releasing balloons here at 12 noon. Additional Chief Engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD) Chattogram Zone Mosle Uddin Ahmmed, ACC’s Chattogram Divisional Director Mahmud Hasan, Noakhali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Tanmay Das, Police Super Alamgir Hossain and District Council Chairman Dr Jafar Ullah were present on the occasion, among others. The three-storey ACC District Coordinated Office has been built at cost of Taka 4.10 core under the supervision of the PWD, reports BSS.

View exchange meet on empowerment held

GAIBANDHA: A day-long view exchange meeting on Empowerment of Youth Community and Doings was held at the auditorium of Gana Unnayan Kendra (GUK) at Nashratpur under Sadar upazila here on Sunday.Department of Youth Development, Amar Adhikar Foundation, and GUK jointly organized the meeting for the youths of the district in a bid to inspire them to keep contribution to build enriched Bangladesh and change their lot as well. Deputy director of DYD Tofayel Ahmed Khan addressed the function as the chief guest, and chairman of Boali union parishad A.M Mazed Uddin Khan was present at the event as the special guest while executive chief of GUK Abdus Salam presided over the meeting. Chief guest DD of DYD Tofayel Ahmed Khan in his speeches said young generation should be groomed to lead the nation towards desired development through using their brains. Terming the youths as the future leaders of the country, the DD said they could contribute a lot to take the nation ahead and help attain the cherished goals of the country. The DD also underscored the need for transforming the youths into competent human resources for building a happy and prosperous Bangladesh. Executive chief of GUK Abdus Salam in his concluding speeches said emphasis should be given on making the youths worthy citizens of the country and being self-dependent economically by equipping them with moral values and income generating trainings on different trades. A total of 70 youths including the members of Youth Empowerment and Social cohesion formed by Manusher Jonno Foundation took part in the meeting spontaneously, reports BSS.
