Pahela Falgun, the first day of spring in the Bangla seasonal calendar, has been greeted on Friday singing ‘let there be flowers bloomed or not, today is Spring ‘. Basanto (spring), the ‘King of seasons’ in Bangla Calendar receives a warm welcome in Barisal city with both joy and enthusiasms. It draws the picture of the colourful season’s transition from dry, dull and drab winter changing flow of wind from south. It begins with colour and festivities in the minds of people, lighting up the spring on hearts of all, irrespective of age, life and living. Bombs hurled at 2 Sylhet CNG re-fuelling stations

Miscreants in separate incidents hurled crude bombs at two CNG refuelling stations in the city on Wednesday. Police said a group of miscreants hurled a crude bomb at Monowar Filling Station around 10.00pm. However, no casualty was reported in the incident. Later police rushed to the spot and recovered the bomb. In another incident, a group of miscreants hurled a crude bomb at Habib Filling Station in Dakhsin Surma upazila around 9.00pm. On information, police visited the spot.

Police arrested two alleged war criminals who committed crimes against humanity in the country’s Liberation War from Imambari Bazar in Nabiganj upazila of the district on Tuesday. Detective branch (DB) of Habiganj police conducted a raid and arrested Majibur Rahman Angur Mian, 65, the chairman of Khagaura union of the upazila, and his brother Mahibur Rahman Boro Mian, 70, former chairman of the same upazila, said sub-inspector Sudip Roy who led the raid. The International Crime Tribunal (ICT)-2 issued an arrest warrant against the duo in a case lodged with Habiganj Judicial Magistrate Cognizance-4 in 2009 by Bhingraj Bibi, wife of Akal Mian, a martyred freedom fighter.
