SUST student ‘commits suicide’

A student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) allegedly committed suicide by taking poison on Thursday. The deceased was identified as Bokul Das, son of Ramu Kumar Das of Sonagao village in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district. He was a student of Political Studies department of the university and a resident of Shah Paran hall. Zahir Uddin Ahmed, proctor of SUST said Bokul fell sick at around 1:30 am and was taken to Osmani Medical College Hospital where he died. The reason for committing suicide has not been ascertained yet although a suicide note was found in his room mentioning ‘no one is responsible for my death’. It is suspected that the student was suffering from mental depression.
Three illegal houses, shops on Government land demolished

A mobile court in Matlab Dakhshin Upazila launched an eviction drive and demolished with bulldozer on Monday afternoon one illegal tin roofed house and two semi pucca shops at Bordia Arong Bazar area beside Matlab -Baburhat Road in Matlab Dakhshin Upazila. Executive Magistrate Nusrat Sharmin led the Court and she was assisted by UNO Shahidul Islam, Municipal Land officials and Police force. She said, despite issuing Notice to one local man Billal Hossain Gazi to remove the illegal structures built by him over Government land, he was not showing any honour nor paying any heed to it. Rather he turned a deaf ear to it. So, the Executive Magistrate Nusrat Sharmin added, the administration was bound to demolish the illegal structures on Monday, 30 September. She urged the local people not to build any structure on Government land and failing this, evicted drive will continue as per law.
2 drug peddlers held, Yaba, phensidyl bottles recovered
Two drug peddlers were arrested and yaba pills and phensidyl bottles were recovered from them from their den on the 2nd floor of Pritom Saloon and Gents Parlour in the town on Wednesday afternoon. Acting on a tip off, Chandpur Coastguard members led by station Commander Lft Foysol Bin Rashid along with an Executive Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman launched a sudden raid and arrested these two drug peddlers with drugs and phensidyls from the 2nd floor of Pritom Hairdressing Saloon and Gents Parlour on Chandpur -Cumilla Road in the district town. The arrestees are identified as Mahbubul Huque Nipu,48, son of late Abdul Hakim of Chowdhurypara in the town and Dulal Mia,33, son of Mohammad Taslim Mia of Shologhar BT Sarak in Torpurchondi village -an outskirt of Chandopur Sadar. Coastguard members recovered from their possession 100 pills of yaba and 26 bottles of phensidyl.Later, they both were handed over to Chandpur Sadar Model Thana and after filing a case against them, they were sent to jail through court-coastguard source added..
