6 RU BCL men hurt in factional clash

Two groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) clashed at Rajshahi University(RU) on Friday, leaving at least six activists injured. The injured were identified as Limon, Shohel Rana, Josim, Rashid, Maruf Parvej and Ikram Hossain Rion. The injured were given first aid at the university medical centre. Witnesses said an argument took place between Kamrul Hasan, a follower of RU unit BCL general secretary Faisal Ahmed Runu and Limon at the university Madar Bux hall’s guest room over a trivial matter that eventually turned into a scuffle. At one stage of scuffle, Kamrul started beating up Limon indiscriminately in the guest room, leaving him injured on the spot. Later, Limon’s followers from different halls gathered in front of the hall and locked into a clash with the rivals after equipped with weapons and sticks. Contacted, RU proctor Professor Lutfar Rahman said The New Nation that “we have already settled the problem between the two BCL groups and police have been also deployed to fend off further trouble”.
Arms trader held in Sylhet

Police in a drive held an illegal arms trader with two revolvers from the frontier Bichanakandi under Gowainghat upazila of the district early on Thursday morning. The arrested person was identified as Arob Ali, 35. Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Thana Abdul Ahad said on information they conducted a raid in the area and held the illegal arms traders with the arms. He was sent to jail by a court order this noon.
4 held with 2,200 Yaba tablets in Bogura
BOGURA: Members of Detective Branch of police in a drive arrested four people with 2,200 pieces of yaba tablets from Charmatha Bus Terminal area in the town last night. The arrested are identified as Alom Mia, 34, Abdul Ahad, 28, Mahafel Mia, 26, and Shahadul Islam, 28. Details of them could not be known immediately. District DB police said, on information, they conducted a raid in the area at midnight last night and nabbed the four people with the contraband drugs. A case was filed today with the concerned thana in this connection, reports BSS.
Rehab programme on black gram in Jamalpur
JAMALPUR: As part of post-flood rehabilitation programme, Department of Agricultural of Extension (DAE) disbursed gram (Mashkalai) among farmers for cultivation in the district. The DAE office in Jamalpur sources said under the programme, 1500 small and marginal farmers were given seed and fertilizers worth around Tk 12,67,000. They said each of the farmers got five kilogram black gram seed, 10 kilogram DAP fertilizer and 5 kilogram MOP fertilizer. The office said 400 farmers in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila got black gram for cultivation of the seasonal crop. Besides 300 farmers in Sarishabari, 200 farmers in Madarganj, 250 farmers in Islampur, 170 farmers in Dewanganj, 80 farmers in Bakshiganj and 100 farmers in Melandaha got same amount of black gram. Training Officer of DAE Md Hazral Ali said seeds and other agri-inputs including fertilizer were distributed among the farmers, reports BSS.
Road mishap kills schoolboy in Thakurgaon
THAKURGAON: A schoolboy was killed as a bus hit him in Soilapukur area on Baliadangi-Nekmarod Road under Baliadangi upazila of the district recently. The deceased was identified as Sabbir Hossain, 11, a resident in Chagoldangi area of the upazila. Police said the accident occurred around 8.30am at Soilapukur on Baliadangi-Nekmarod Road when Sabbir was returning home by riding a bicycle. He was admitted to Baliadangi Upazila Health Complex and shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital later. But he died on the way to the hospital. Officer-in-Charge of Baliadangi Thana Mosaberul Haque confirmed. Police seized the bus, reports BSS.
