Ganajagaran Mancha celebrates 2nd founding anniv in Gouripur

Ganajagaran Mancha, Gouripur upazila unit celebrated its second founding anniversary in Gouripur upazila of Mymensingh on Friday. .
 The day’s programme began with national anthem at 3:30pm.On the day, activists of the youth-led platform paid their tribute to the war martyrs at the Martyrs’ Monument ‘Bijoy 71’at Gouripur town. After the oath-taking, the “Jagaran Rally” began at 4 pm from the monument platform to town area while a special cultural programme was held at 5:00pm at the same venue. This rally was led by Ganajagaran Mancha Upazila unit Convener Kairul Bashar. The rally was addressed by, amongst others Freedom Fighter Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Alhajj Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, Former State Minister for Health & Family Welfare as a chief guest, AL Joint Secretary and Ex-President of Press Club Nurul Islam , President of Press Club Md. Release of Falu demanded

 Jessore Union of Journalists on Thursday demanded immediate release of Mosaddek Hossain Falu, chairman, Ntv. JUJ also demanded removal of embargo on airing other television channels. Nur Islam, President, JUJ and M Ayub, General Secretary, JUJ in a press release urged the government to stop repression of journalists and media.

40 BNP-Jamaat men arrested in Jessore

 Police arrested a total of 40 people including 13 BNP- Jamaat men of whom 10 are from BNP and the rest are Jamaat-e-Islami activists. The people were nabbed in an overnight operation by the police, said Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police, Jessore.

Man to die for killing one in Patuakhali

A court here on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing a motorcycle-renter in 2011. Patuahali Additional District and Session Judge Mohammad Alamgir Kabir handed down the verdict. The convict is Asadul Munshi (28), Son of Khalek Munshi of Pangashia, Dumki Upazila in the district. According to prosecution, 12 February, 2011 at 11:00 PM, the convict Asadul asked Abdus Salam, son of Barek Sikder with his motorcycle for going to watch Jatra Pala (Theatre). But, the convict chopped Salam to death to snatch the motorcycle at Kalichanna village of the upazila. Later, Khalek Munshi, father of the dead filed a case with Sadar Thana on 13 February, 2011, accusing Asadul. Following this, police arrested Asadul from his house next day. After examining the records and 28 witnesses, the court handed down the verdict.

Construction worker dies from electrocution

A construction worker died and another was injured from electrocution in Nabab Para of the district town on Tuesday. The deceased was identified as Mujaffar (22), Son of Late Adam Mallik of Dakkhin Muradia in Dumki Upazila. Witnesses said, the labourers came in contact with a snapped electric wire while working at the building of one Hasem Musni in the area at about 5:00 pm. They were rushed to 250-Bed General Hospital Where doctors declared Mujaffar dead.

RU JCD leader arrested

The general secretary of Rajshahi University (RU) unit Jatiotabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) was allegedly arrested on Thursday evening from his house though law enforcers denied later. The arrestee Kamrul Hasan’s family alleged that Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested him from his resident house at Meherchandi area of the city at 6:30pm. Denying the matter Khandaker Jahedur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Rajshahi Metropolitan DB, said that he was unaware about the arrest of RU unit JCD secretary. RU unit JCD joint-secretary Sultan Ahmed Rahi alleged that DB police arrested Kamrul conducting a searching drive at his house while he was been beaten up a lot.
