7 houses, valuables gutted, 7 injured in Chandpur

A devastating fire burnt seven dwelling houses and over one lakh taka cash at Mridhabari in Uttar Digholdi Village of Matlab Dakhshin Upazila on Wednesday afternoon. Sources informed that the fire has originated from electric short circuit and later the gas cylinders also exploded spreading the fire rapidly around. Some 6/7 people received burn injuries among them two were seriously injured while they were engaged in dousing the flames. Affected Azim Mridha’s elderly mother Ranu Begum,70, first saw the flame in the kitchen and then hearing her screams, all others at home rushed. In the meantime, the gas cylinders also caught fire and exploded and caused the fire more devastating spreading all around engulfing houses after house adjacent to each other. No valuables could be removed within so short a time-said Kamal , Nurul, Nilu and Azim Mridha with tears rolling down their cheeks and sobs. Even, cash money over Tk one lakh preserved at the house for marriage function of the fire victim Azim Mridha’s younger sister was also injured. Some cattle tied beside the kitchen were also burnt. On getting the news of fire, a fire fighters’ team from Matlab Dakhshin led by Station Officer Md Asaduzzaman Mia rushed and doused the fire after frantic efforts for long one hour. Valuation of loss caused in the fire is estimated at least Tk 25 lakhs.
Fruit Tree Fair begins in Baraigram

A three day-long Fruit Tree Fair was inaugurated at Baraigram Upazila in Natore on Monday. On the occasion, an inaugural function was held at the upazila Parishad Auditorium. UNO Md Anwar Parvez presided over the function while MP of Natore-4 seat (Baraigram-Gurudaspur) Prof Abdul Kuddus was present as a Chief Guest and Bonpara Pouro Mayor KM Jakir Hossain, Upazila Vice Chairman Md Ataur Rahman, Upazila Mahila Vice Chairman Suraiya Akter Koli, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Paritash Kumar Roy were present as special guests. It was also addressed by Upazila Agruculture Officer Iqbal Ahmed. In the function, Headmasters of Educational Institutes, teachers and students of Bonpara Model High School, Begum Rokeya Girls’ High School, Saint Josephs’ School and College and SR Patwari Quality Educare Institute were present. At the end of the function, chief guest Prof. Abdul Kuddus MP distributed saplings of fruit trees among the Headmasters of educational institutes and students. At the beginning of the function, chief and special guests visited 25 stalls which were set up in the fruit Fair.
