Gouripur Zilla Implementation Committee to be formed

A special meeting organised by district implementation committee at Gouripur Zila Parishad Dakbanglaw on Monday to press their demands for upgrading the upazila into a district. Chaired by former state minister for health & family welfare Dr. Capt. (Retd.) Alhajj Mujibur Rahman Fakir MP, the meeting was attended by former mayor of Gouripur Municipality Dr. Abdul Mannan, former mayor Md. Abdul Ali, Upazila AL Vice President Principal Md. Ruhul Amin, Upazila AL Vice President Dr. Helal Uddin, Upazila AL General Secretary Babu Bidu Bushan Das , AL Joint Secretary and Ex-President of Press Club Nurul Islam , Principal of Gouripur Govt College Prof Md. Habibullah, OC of Gouripur Thana Mohammad Ali, Head Teacher (Retd) Md Abdul Hai and people from different professions joined the meeting. Speakers at the meeting emphasized the need of upgrading Gouripur upazila into a district.
Cocktail blasts at JU Proctor’s residence

A cocktail was exploded in front of the residence of Jahangirnagar University (JU) Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Saha here Monday night. Protesting the incident , Bangladesh Chattra League (BCL) leaders and activists of JU unit brought out a procession on the campus, led by JU unit BCL General secretary Rajib Ahmed Rasel and Cltural Secretary Abdul Qaiyum Bipul respectively. The demonstration was also addressed by BCL president Mahmudur Rahman Jony, Organizing Secretary Morshedur Rahman Akand and Faisal Islam Dipu and Literature Secretary Sanwar Hossain. The BCL leaders vowed to resist terrorism and anarchy on campus at any cost and demanded to identify the responsible for cocktail attack on Proctor’s residence.
On contacted, Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Shaha said that, unidentified miscreants blasted a cocktail in front of his residence while he was not at the house.
Anti-violence committee formed in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA:A committee on “anti violence” was formed in Shaghata upazila of the district on Monday to check violence and sabotage by the miscreants. The committee was formed at a meeting held at the conference room of upazila parishad with acting president of Bangladesh Awami League upazila unit, Nazmul Huda Dudu in the chair.After elaborate discussion, a 51-member committee was formed headed by Abdul Sarker Babu and Jahangir Kabir as president and general secretary respectively. The committee members in the meeting strongly condemned the on-going violence and sabotage by the miscreants in the name of blockade and hartal programmes enforced by BNP led 20-party alliance, reports BSS.
Fake DB man held in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) nabbed a fake member of Detective Branch (DB) of police at Bornally crossing area under Boalia Police Station in the city last night, RAB sources here said yesterday. The arrested person was identified as Jahangir Alam, 25, son of Hazrat Ali of Upashahar area under the same police station. On a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted a sudden raid at the area around 11.56 pm and rounded him up while he was collecting toll worth Taka 50,000 from a local contractor forcibly. During the preliminary interrogation, the arrested person confessed that he was involved in various crimes identifying himself as DB policeman for long.
In another raid, another RAB team nabbed four drug-paddlers with 434 bottles of phensidyl from Krishnabati Kalidighi area under Godagari Upazila of the district.
The arrested persons are: Shariful Islam, 35, Abu Musha, 40, Shafiqul Islam, 35, and Rejaul Karim, 32, reports BSS.
