Two hurt in BSF shooting in Sylhet

Two Bangladeshi youths were injured as the Indian Border Security Force of opened fire on them on Sylhet border on Tuesday. The injured Ruhel Miah, 35, son of late Akhlu Miah of Goabari of Jaintapur, and his younger brother Azhar Miah, 30, were not admitted to any hospital and got treatment locally fearing arrest by Border Guard Bangladesh and police, locals. A team of some 10 people tried to cross border on four boats loaded with green peas through Sari River in Jaintapur near Lalakhal camp of 19 BGB Battalion, they said. The BSF personnel opened fire targeting the suspected smugglers that injured the two siblings and forced all of them to return back, the locals said. Lieutenant Colonel Syeed of 19 BGB Battalion said that they heard three gunshots fire by the BSF, but they were not aware of injuring any Bangladeshi in the incident. ‘We are investigating into the incident and legal step would be taken in this regard, if the people involved in the smuggling attempt could be identified,; he said.

The Floriculture Division of the Horticulture Research Center of the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) has arranged a trainers training workshop on Thursdayat the seminar room of the Horticulture Research Center. 30 representatives from BARI, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) and various NGOs participated at the training workshop. BARI Director (Support & Services) Dr. Babu Lal Nag inaugurated the training workshop as chief guest. Director (Horticulture Research Centre) Dr. Abeda Khatun presided over the function while Director (Tuber Crops Research Centre) Dr. A K M Shamsul Haque, Director (Planning & Evaluation) Md. Habibur Rahman Sheikh were present as special guest. Chief Scientific Officer of Floriculture Division and Project Director Dr. Kabita Anju-Man-Ara addressed the welcome speech. Principal Scientific Officer of the same division Dr. Farjana Nasrin Khan gave the vote of thanks. Scientists, officers, among others, were also present on the occasion.
Six girls saved from child marriage in Sirajganj
Sirajgonj: A total of six schoolgirls have been saved from the disaster of child marriage in the space of just two days in Sirajganj, thanks to the prompt action of the local administration. According to the sources, the mobile court which was led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Anisur Rahman, foiled the marriage preparations of a 9th grader of the local high school, Sabrina Khatun Kotha (15) with Sumon Hossain (25) in the nick of time. Based on information from a hidden source on Saturday afternoon, the action occurred at the bride’s maternal grandfather’s house in Hossainpur colony of the municipality area, reports UNB.
