Obama’s basketball jersey sells for $120,000 on auction

A basketball jersey once owned by former US president Barack Obama sold Monday for $120,000, according to the Dallas auction house that sold it.
The number 23 jersey belonged to 18-year-old Obama while he was a senior at Punahou high school in Hawaii, where he lived at the time, according to Heritage Auctions. The jersey was valued at $100,000 before it was sold.
Release of Iranian tanker ‘very unfortunate’: Pompeo

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed frustration Monday over the “very unfortunate” decision to release an Iranian tanker held off Gibraltar, in an implicit rebuke to ally Britain.
The British overseas territory rejected a US demand to seize the vessel, which has since departed Gibraltar and entered international waters.
13 Chinese tourists killed in Laos bus plunges

At least 13 Chinese tourists were killed and dozens injured when their bus skidded off the road and plunged 30 metres into a ravine in Laos, a police officer said Tuesday.
The bus was carrying more than 40 Chinese nationals heading towards the tourist town of Luang Prabang when the accident occurred late on Monday.
Saudi Arabia soldier killed near border with Yemen

Saudi Arabia says a soldier was killed near the country’s southern border with Yemen, where the kingdom has been at war against Houthi rebels for four and a half years.
The state-run Saudi Press Agency reported the death on Monday, providing his name and his rank as a sergeant, but did not disclose how he died or specifically where.
The report said burial prayers were conducted in his hometown of Qilwa on Sunday.
