Iran says in touch with Britain over seized tanker

Iran’s port authority said Tuesday it has been in contact with British authorities as part of efforts to secure the release of a tanker seized off Gibraltar.
Gibraltar-a British overseas territory-seized the Grace 1 supertanker on July 4 with the help of British Royal Marines on suspicion it was shipping oil to Syria in violation of EU sanctions.

UN probing 35 North Korean cyberattacks in 17 countries

U.N. experts say they are investigating at least 35 instances in 17 countries of North Koreans using cyberattacks to illegally raise money for weapons of mass destruction programs – and they are calling for sanctions against ships providing gasoline and diesel to the country.
Last week, The Associated Press quoted a summary of a report from the experts which said that North Korea illegally acquired as much as $2 billion from its increasingly sophisticated cyber activities against financial institutions and cryptocurrency exchanges.

Typhoon Lekima death toll rose to 49 in China

The death toll from Typhoon Lekima rose to 49 on Tuesday and 21 were still missing after the monster storm wreaked havoc on China’s eastern coast, causing huge damage with strong gales and torrential rain.
Lekima hit the three Chinese provinces of Zhejiang, Shandong and Anhui over the weekend and forced more than a million residents to flee.

Heavy rainfall floods parts of Sudan, 6 killed

Flooding triggered by heavy rains inundated hundreds of houses in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and elsewhere in the country, killing at least six people Tuesday, the state-run news agency said.
SUNA news agency said at least five people, including two children, were killed when rains destroyed their house in the village of Rifaa in central Jazeera province. Another two children were injured, the report added. In the nearby village of Zarqa, at least 15 houses were destroyed, and at least one person died, the agency said.
