BGB seizes arms, knitting machines in Jessore

Border Guard Bangladesh men early Friday seized a foreign pistol, a magazine and 10 sets of knitting machines and 10 sets of equipments in separate operations, Lt Col Jahangir Hossain, commanding officer 26 Border Guard Battalion said. The BGB CO told New Nation that a patrol of the BGB led by him seized a foreign pistol and a magazine chasing smugglers at Baropota under Benapole port police station at around 1am. But none was arrested. In another operation the BGB men seized 10 sets of China made knitting machines and 10 sets of equipments worth Tk 80, 00, 000 from Benapole port town at around 10:30 am. The arms and knitting machines were smuggled from India, the BGB official added.
Abducted man found dead in Jessore
Chaugachha police on Friday morning recovered the body of an elderly man from the veranda of the residence of Hasibul Islam of Pantipara under the upazila. The dead was identified as Abdus Samad Mollah, 60 of Dighri village under the upazila. Abul Kalam Azad, sub- inspector, Chaugachha police station told that being informed by the locals the police recovered the body from the veranda of the residence of Hasibul Islam of Pantipara under the upazila on Friday morning. The man was abducted early afternoon. The reason of the killing could not be known immediately and none was arrested in this connection
Passenger launch came under arson attack

MV Manashi, a passenger launch plying on Gournadi-Dhaka route came under arson attack on Friday night. Curtain of the launch was slightly damaged. The launch carrying more than 150 passengers and two panicked passengers were injured during their disorderly movement. But the launch continued journey to destination, said Humaun Kabir, ticket clerk of the launch. Sajjad Hossain, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said the launch leaving Koyaria ghat boarded passengers from Hosnabad station of Gournadi on Arial Kha River bank at about 6:30 PM. While launch left Hosnabad station some miscreants threw patrol bomb on the launch from the shore. One curtain of the launch sustained minor damage and the launch continued journey safely without any causality, the police sources said.
Jamaat leader held in Sylhet

Police arrested a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami from Sridharpur in Biswanath upazila on Tuesday noon. The arrestee was identified as Fakhrul Islam Khan, Sura member of Sylhet city unit Jamaat and also president of the district Shramik Kalyan Federation. Officer-in-charge of Biswanath Police Station Rafiqul Hossain said tipped off, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of Fakhrul in the area and arrested him at about 12 noon. The arrestee was wanted in several cases filed for vandalism and subversive activities, said the OC.
