Woman held with pistol, bullets in Benapole
BEANPOLE: Police arrested a woman along with a foreign 9mm pistol, four bullets and 15 bottles of Phensidyl at Shibnathpur Baropota village in the upazila of Jashore district on Sunday night. The arrested was identified as Rahena Begum, 38, wife of Kamrul of Shibnathpur village.Sayed Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Benapole Port Police Station, said on secret information about arms trading in the house, a team of police conducted a drive at the house of Rahena last night and arrested Rahena with the foreign pistol, bullets and Phensidyl from the house, while her husband managed to flee. A case was filed in this connection, the OC added, reports BSS.
Promoting digitalisation of land services stressed
RAJSHAHI: Land Secretary Maksudur Rahman Patwary has urged the field level administrative officials to bring all the existing land services under digitalization process for welfare of the public in general. “Public sufferings and harassment related to land mutation and other necessary activities could be addressed through digitalization of land services,” he further said while inaugurating a two-day divisional refreshers workshop on ‘E-mutation’ at Nanking Darbar Hall in the city on Sunday as chief guest. Commissioner office of Rajshahi division organized the workshop in association with Access to Information (a2i) programme of the Prime Minister’s Office. The workshop will help to understand the land management system specially the whole mutation process (an important part of land ownership) to the participants. More than 100 officials engaged in providing land services in district and upazila level in all eight districts under the division are taking part in the workshop. Chaired by Commissioner of Rajshahi division Nur-Ur-Rahman, the session was addressed, among others, by Director of Local Government Division Shyam Kishore Roy, Additional Divisional Commissioners Anwar Hossain and Jakir Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque. Maksud Patwary called upon the participants to make the land services easy to reach those to the people’s doorsteps through digitalization. He also directed them to the best uses of the knowledge to be acquired from the workshop in their practical field, reports BSS.

Bishwa Sahitya Kendra (BSK) in assistances with financial service provider ‘bkash’ organized a programme of book distribution on Sunday noon in Asmat Ali Khan Institution (A K School) of the city. The progamme was organized by non-profit institution BSK since last 40 years in more than 2 thousand schools to promote book reading habits among 2 lakhs students.The programme of Sunday at Barishal A K School was presided over by Advocate Syed Golam Masud Bablu, president of the school governing body and conducted by Mesbahuddin Ahmed Sumon, joint director (programme) of BSK. Among others Khairul Alam Sabuj, eminent actor, Dr. Abdun Nur Tushar, television personality, Major General (retd.) Sheikh Md. Manirul Islam, chief of external and corporate affairs of financial service provider bkash, Humayun Kabir, head of regulatory and corporate affairs bkash, Dr. Bahauddin Golap, Barishal unit coordinator study circle of BSK, AHM Jasimuddin, headmaster of the school, addressed the programme.
