Seminar against early marriage held

A seminar on early marriage was held at the conference room of Gomostapur Upazila Parishad on Monday. Non-government organization Proyas Manobik Unnayan Society and community radio ‘Radio Mohananda’ jointly arranged it. It was held with upazila nirbahi officer of Gomostapur Sadequl Islam in the chair. Upazila chairman Bairul Islam and Gomostapur circle ASP Sheikh Sharif-Uz-Zaman attended the seminar as chief and special guest. The concept paper was presented by Abdus Salam. Executive director of Proyas Hasib Hossain, pannel mayor of Rohonpur Municipality Jahid Hasan Mukta, OC of Gomostapur thana Firoj Ahmed and women affairs officer Barun Kumar Pal spoke on the subject. The speakers asked all to build up social awareness against this social evil and work together to eliminate this.
22 arrested for sabotage in Sunamganj

Police have arrested 22 persons including a BNP activist for carrying out subversive activities in Sunamganj during the ongoing blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Police Super Md Harun-or-Rashid said they were arrested in drives from Tuesday night till Wednesday morning. He said police would continue the drive in order to control the law and order situation. The BNP-led 20-party alliance has been observing countrywide roads and waterways blockade for indefinite period since January 5. Blockade-related violence has killed at least 35 people over the last few weeks. Hundreds of vehicles, including those belonging to law-enforcers, were burnt and attacked. The BNP chairperson called the non-stop blockade on January 5 after she was barred from coming out of her Gulshan office.
6 Shibir activists held in Sylhet
Police in a drive arrested six leaders and activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir from a mess at Kumargaon in Sadar upazila early Tuesday. The arrested were identified as Shakib Ahmad, 25, president of Fatehpur Madrasa unit Shibir, Minhaz Uddin, 24, office secretary of Sadar upazila unit of the organisation and its activists Jakaria Ahmad, 27, Saiful Islam, 22, Harunur Rashid, 24, Rahat Din Sayed, 22. Jalalabad Police Station sub-inspector Zakir Ahmed said, On a tip-off, police conducted a drive at the mess around 2:00 am and arrested the six Shibir leaders and activists,
Cow-lifter held in Chitalmari

Sujan Khan, a cow-lifter was arrested along with a lifted cow from the village Panchpara within Charbaniari Union under Chitalmari Upazila in the district in the early hours of Tuesday and was sent to jail hajat. It is learnt from the police and the locals that at the night Sujan Khan and his associates lifted a cow from a cow-shed belonging to one Kiron Mondol of the village and while they tried to flee away the villagers woke up, chased them and caught Sujan Khan along with the booty. The other miscreants managed to escape. Then the villagers handed him over to the police of Chitalmari PS. Police sent him to jail hajat. It is learnt from the locals that Sujan Khan, son of one late Liakat Khan of village Shyampara under the same Upazila and his associates have been committing various criminal activities like theft, hijacking, stealing of lobsters and shrimps after pouring poison in the fish farms etc.
