Truck-driver killed in road accident

Jewell Rana (32), helper of a truck (Dhaka Metro Ta-13-0310) was killed on the spot when his truck met an accident on Khulna-Mongla Highway near at Chulkathi bus stand under Bagerhat Sadar Upazila on Friday morning. Badiar Rahman, a truck driver of another truck said that the truck loaded with cement was going from Mongla Port to Rajshahi along with some other trucks and when it reached the place of occurrence one of its front wheels got fractured. As a result, the driver lost his control over its steering and it collided head on with a road side tree violently, its helper Jewell Rana was killed on the spot and driver was injured. Ill-fated Jewell Rana hailed from Rupsa Upazila in Khula district.
Kuwait team to visit Bhola

A 14-member delegation of Kuwait will arrive in Dhaka today on a five-day visit to Bhola. Khalid Mohammad Al Subaihi, a prominent Kuwaiti munificent, will head the delegation. The team will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by a Kuwaiti private airlines’ flight at around 11:00am. The Kuwaiti delegation is coming to respond the invitation of a Kuwait expatriate Bangladeshi remittance award holder Jakir Hossain. During the visit to Bhola the team will distribute relief goods among the destitute and poor people and inspect the religious development works. Jakir Hossain said these Kuwaiti rich men donated for constructing mosques, madrasas and many others development works. They will come here in a bid to make their projects more dynamic. Mahbub Alam, Secretary of Kuwait financed Abdul Aziz Ahmed Al Mousa orphanage and Kuwait Madrassa, said all out preparation has been taken ahead of the Kuwait representative team’s five-day visit.
Jamaat leader detained from Sylhet jail gate

Police detained Sylhet City Jamaat Nayebe Ameer (Vice President) Hafez Abdul Hai Harun Sylhet Central Jail gate area after he was released on bail yesterday noon. Deputy Commissioner (DB) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, said on information, a team of DB police detained Harun at around 12pm from the jail gate area. ‘He will be shown arrest if we find more cases against him,’ said superintendent of the jail.
Smuggler held with gold bars in Benapole

Border Guard Bangladesh men on Wednesday morning arrested a smuggling suspect and seized some 11 pieces of gold bars from Daulatpur frontier under Benapole port police station. The arrested is Babul Hossain of Daulatpur village under Benapole port police station in Jessore. Lieutenant Colonel Abdur Rahim, commanding officer, 23 Border Guard Battalion told that tipped off the BGB men recovered a total of 11 pieces of gold bars 110 tolas of weight searching the body of Babul after arresting him while he was attempting to go to India. Babul told BGB men that he was hired by Zia of Daulatpur village for carrying the gold bars to India. The arrested were handed over to Benapole port police after filing a case.
Two held with 150 Yaba tables in Jessore
BENAPOLE: Police arrested two alleged drug peddlers in possession of 150 pieces of Yaba tablets from Chanchra Raipara area in Jessore town on Wednesday night. The arrestees were identified as Rana Sheikh,24, son of Sekendar Ali Sheikh, a resident of Chanchra Raipara area in Jessore town, and Rasel Molla,25, son of Yusuf Molla, a resident of Laibia village in Lohagara upazila of Narail district. In-charge of Chanchra police camp assistant sub-inspector Jamal Uddin said on secret information, a police team conducted a drive in the area and arrested the duo at about 11:00 pm. Later, police recovered 150 pieces of Yaba tablet from their possession. The arrestees had long been involved in Yaba peddling, the police officer added, report UNB.
