Dacoits loot 365 sacks of rice , cash

A band of robbers taken away 365 sacks of rice and Tk 62 thousands cash tying the night guard at Shailokupa upazila town in Jhenidah on Thursday night. Night guard and the go down owners said, on Thursday night at around 2-30 am a group of dacoits 25/30 reached Shailokupa bazaar and asked a torch light to the night guard Manik Hossain. As he came to them in good faith, they caught him and tied back his hand. At the time they broke two locks and loaded 350 sacks of rice from the godown of Bashu Shaha and 15 sacks from Rima Dey. They also took Tk 7 thousand from Bashu Shah’s godown and Tk 55 thousand from Rima Shah.
16 injured in AL rival groups clash in Chitalmari

Atleast 16 persons including woman and children of both the groups were injured when an armed clash took place between the 2 rival groups of people belonging to local Awami League in the village Rahmatpur within Kalatala Union under Chitalmari Upazila in the district on Wednesday morning over the expansion of supremacy in the locality. At that time one shop was looted and 12 dwelling houses were attacked and ransacked by the supporters of both the groups. It is learnt from the police and the eye witnesses that the clash took place between the supporters of Emdadul Haq Shaikh and Dr. Shah Jahan of the village at about 9 am. Both of them are local Awami League leaders.The injured persons of Emdadul Haq are Emdadul Haq Shaikh, Nazrul, Zakar Ali, Badsha Master, Yunus Mir, Arif Shaikh, Hayat Ali, Hasib Shaikh, Arif Shaikh, Zkar Biswas, Dulal Shaikh, Mili Begum and Sajjad. The injured persons of Dr. Shah Jahan are Firoj Shaikh, Sajjad Hossain and Rafikul Islam. The injured persons were recovered from the place of occurrence and were admitted to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex (in Gopalganj) and Chitalmari Upazila Health Complex for their treatment.
Cultural competition of BRAC Pry students held in Barisal

Regional level ‘Tarae Tarae Deepshikha’, cultural competition of BRAC Primary and Pre-primary school students, ended at Begum Sufiya Kamal learning center in BRAC Barisal regional office on Thursday. Total 139 competitors from Deepshikha schools, Ganokendra Pathagar, Kishor-Kishori Unnoyon Karmasuchi of eight upazilas under Barisal and Pirojpur districts participated in the dance, song, recitation and painting groups of in this ‘ Tarae Tarae Deepshikha 2015’ competition.The programme was presided over by Mahabub Hossain Khan, regional manager Brac education programme Shohidul Alam, deputy commissioner Barisal as chief guest inaugurated the programme and distributed prizes among the competitors.Among others Sudhamoy Sarkar, assistant commissioner, Ripan Chandra Mandal, Mizanur Rahman, AFM Alamgir, Shah Alam Khan, Satyen Kumar Sharma, Sabina Begum, Bivas Chandra Dey, officials of BRAC, addressed the programme.The speakers stressed on proper psychological and physical development of children to prepare them for facing various competitions in future life. Children have own sources of lights to illuminate the surrounding world and if they nourished properly only then they could enlighten the society and country in future life, they added. ‘Deepshikha’ is an initiative by BRAC Education Programme to bring out children’s hidden talents and the competition was started at root level started on February 2011.
Digital Innovation Fair begins in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A three- day ‘Digital Innovation Fair’-2015 began on Independence Square here on Thursday with a call to reach digital services to the doorsteps of the people.
District administration has organized the fair under Access to Information Programme of Prime Minister Office funded jointly by Bangladesh government, USAID and UNDP.The objective of the fair is to inform all about what types of services of the government and non government offices are being provided to the people through digitized process within less cost and short time. Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Ehsan-e-Elahi formally inaugurated the fair by cutting a red tape and went round the stalls set up in the fair as the chief guest. Additional deputy commissioner (General) Abu Bakar Siddique, additional deputy commissioner (Revenue) Begum Saleha Khatun, additional district magistrate Farid Ahmed, deputy director of local government section Moklesur Rahman, Sadar UNO Ashraful Momin Khan, district level officials and invited guests including journalists of print and electronic media were also present on the occasion. Speaking at the function, DC M. Ehsan-e-Elahi said the government, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, had already achieved remarkable success in building digital Bangladesh in different sectors including health, education, agriculture, and information and communication technology. He also urged all to help the government from their respective positions to materialize the dream of transforming the country into a middle income one by 2021 with the spirit of the Liberation War through building digital Bangladesh, reports BSS.
