Woman drug trader held in Bagerhat

Police arrested a woman drug trader with three kilograms of ganja at Kathaltala village under Moralganj upazila of the district on Tuesday. On secret information, a team of police from Moralganj thana conducted a raid at the house of one Farooq Sheikh and arrested his wife Hiru Begum, 35, with three kilograms of ganja packed in three separate bags. ensing the presence of law enforcers, Farooq fled away from his house. Police said Farooq Sheikh and his wife were professional drug traders since long. A case was recorded with Moralganj police station in this connection.

3 smugglers arrested with skin, head of Tiger

A contingent of RAB-8 arrested 3 smugglers and recovered one skin, one head and some other limbs and appendages of the Royal Bengal tiger from Nabbairasi bus stand under Morrelganj Upazila in the district on Tuesday in the evening. The arrested smugglers are Md. Delwar Shaikh (32) and Nuruzzaman Shaikh ((52), sons of one Yusuf Shaikh of village Sonatala Dhalirghop, adjacent to Sundarban forest within Southkhali Union under Sharankhola Upazila in the district and Kabir Hawladar ((42), son of one Abdul Haq Hawladar of village Choto Nalbunia under Dhansagar Union under the same Upazila. It is learnt from Lt. Faridul Alam, Commanding Officer (CO) of RAB-8 that acting on secret information a team o of RAB-8 raided Nabbairasi bus stand and waited in ambush near it at 5-45 pm. At that time they found a number of persons in suspicious movement. Then the RAB members kept an eye on them. As soon as the RAB appeared there very tactfully at about 6 pm the miscreants tried to flee away. At that time the RAB member chased them and arrested 3 of them and 4 others manage to escape. The escaped persons are Sagir Shaikh (38), Kabir Shaikh (44), Emdadul Haq (45) and Harun Shaikh (38). They also hail from the same area.

Construction worker electrocuted in Bhola

A construction worker died from electrocution at Daulatkhan Bazar in Daulatkhan upazila of the district on Tuesday morning. The deceased was identified as Zahirul Islam, 22, son of Amir Hossain, a resident of Lejpata village of the upazila. Witnesses said Zahirul got electric shock and injured critically when he came in contact with a live electric wire while working in the Upazila Freedom Fighter Complex building in the area around 10am. Later he was rushed to the upazila health complex where on-duty doctors declared him dead.Mir Khairul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Daulatkhan police station, confirmed the incident.

Youth commits suicide in Rajshahi

RAJSHAHI: A young man committed suicide by hanging himself with the ceiling of his room in the city on Tuesday night.The deceased was identified as Maruf, 32, son of Dalim Khalifa, a resident of Ramchandrapur area of the city.Nur Hossain, officer-in-charge of Boalia model police station, said in a huff with the other members of his family, Maruf hanged himself with the ceiling of his room around 10.00pm on Tuesday. Sensing the trouble, his family members called in police. The body was sent to hospital morgue for an autopsy, added the OC, reports UNB.

3 firearms, bullets recovered in Satkhira

SATKHIRA: Police recovered two pistols, one shutter gun and six rounds of bullet from a house at Kajla Kashibati village in Kaliganj upazila on Wednesday morning. Kaliganj Police Station officer-in-charge Imdad Sheikh said on secret information, a team of police conducted a raid on the house of one Liton, son of Fajar Ali, at the village and recovered two pistols, one shutter gun and six rounds of bullet at about 9:30 am.
However, none was arrested.A case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.

6 cops hurt in Gaibandha road accident

GAIBANDHA: Six policemen were injured in a collision between two pickup vans carrying police in Sundarganj upazila of the district on Monday night.
Mozammel Haque, officer-in-charge of Sundarganj police station, said the accident took place around 11.00 pm when a pickup van carrying police hit another police van from behind in Domer Haat area of Chaporhati union of the upazial, leaving six policemen injured. The injured were admitted to a local hospital, reports UNB.
