Founding anniv of SA TV celebrated

The 3rd founding anniversary of SA TV was celebrated in Bagerhat district town in a befitting manner on Monday. The day’s programme began with a colourful rally that started from Bagerhat Press Club premises in the morning paraded the main thoroughfares of the district town. It was led by its President Adv. Md. Shah Alam Tuku and its former presidents Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain and Babul Sardar and it was attended by the journlists, teachers, students and elites of the town. It was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony. After that a lively discussing meeting was held in the press club auditorium with its president Adv. Md. Shah Alm Tuku in the chair. Partho Protim Chakravarty, Bagerhat district based correspondent of SA TV disclosed the aims and objects of the TV channel in his address of welcome. The discussion meeting was addressed among others by former Presidents of the Press Club Adv. Mozaffor Hosain, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husaain, Ahsanul Karim, local PTI Instructor Anjana Rani Biswas, journalist Azadul Haq, Khuln divisional Manager of SA Paribhan Saki and others. All the speakers urged the electronic mediums to telecast and broadcast objective, impartial and unbiased news items and polished recreational progrmmes for the greater interest of the country and her people. Babul Sardar, former President of the Press Club conducted the function.
Shaheed Asad Day observed in Barisal

The 46th anniversary of the 1969 mass uprising and martyrdom of Shaheed Asad observed in Barisal on Tuesday calling to institutionalize democracy in Bangladesh ensuring basic and human rights. The participants of the programme urged to build and statue or monument at Chankhar Pol, the martyrdom place of Asad. They also called to include objective history of the mass uprising movement, its leaders and achievements in the educational curriculum of the country. Shaheed Asad Parishad Barisal unit organized a rally, discussion on ‘Achievements of mass uprising of 69 and Thoughts of Shaheed Asad’, gave flower wrath to his portrait and cultural function on this occasion in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in morning. The programmes was presided over by Dr. Mizanur Rahman, and conducted by Joytirmoy Chakroborty Ratan, president and secretary of the organization. Socio-cultural-political-educational personalities like Khan Altaf Hossain Vulu, Barisal convener of the Sarbodalio Chhatra Sangram Parishad of 1969 uprising and central leader of Krishak League, Prof. Mohsin Ul Islam Habul, leader of college teachers association, Nazrul Huq Nilu of Workers Party, Hiran Kumar Das Mithu of Gano Forum, addressed the rally. The speakers said that the Mass Uprising Day has great significance in national life and teaches us to become democratic and protest against all kinds of injustice and oppression.
Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee demands ban on Jamaat
Barisal Unit of Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee on Monday afternoon forming a human chain in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city demanded restoration of constitution of 72, speedy execution of war crime verdicts and ban against Jamaat. The programme was organised on occasion of the 23rd anniversary of EGDNC and presided over by Akkas Hossain, cultural activist. Among others Shanti Das, secretary Barisal unit of EGDNC, Advocate AK Azad of CPB, Rabeya Khatun of Mohila Parishad, Nazrul Huq Nilu of Workers Party, Anwar Zahid, NGO organiser, addressed the rally. The speakers calling for restoration of the version of 1972 of the constitution demanded speedier the process of trial and ensure execution of highest punishment of war criminals.
Human chain formed protesting AL torture in Jessore

Sanatan Bidyarthi Sangsad, a platform of students of Hindu community on Monday morning formed a human chain in front of Jessore Press Club protesting at the torture of ruling party Awami League’s Bahadurpur union unit general secretary Mofizur Rahman. Prosenjit Thakur, president, Sanatan Bidyarthi Sangsad, Jessore alleged that a number of Hindu community families were compelled to leave Shakharigati area under Benapole port police station after being tortured by Mofiz gang. They are being tortured now, too. He urged the administration for taking steps against Mofiz gang in the human chain. While asked, AL leader Mofizur Rahman denied the allegation and said he used to look after fisheries community Hindu people at the area. He, however said he has been using the local water body that was allocated for fisheries community men, for fish farming for about 15 years. Hafizur Rahman, president, Bahadurpur union unit Juba League, youth wing of the ruling party told journalists that Mofiz and his brothers were being torturing Hindus at the area for which they were compelled to leave the area.
