82kg Vishnu idol found in Chandpur

A touchstone idol of Lord Vishnu has been found in a pond in Kachua upazila. Quoting locals, Mohammad Oliullah, officer-in-charge of Kachua Police Station, said Amir Hossain, Waliullah and Osman Fakir of Koroish village found the idol in the pond while catching fish on Friday. However, they concealed the matter. Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a drive at the village around 1:30am on Saturday and recovered the 82-kg idol, 38 inches in length and 19 inches in width, the OC said. It will be handed over to the Department of Archaeology, he added.
Panchagarh Express sets out on maiden voyage
PANCHAGARH : A new train on Dhaka-Panchagarh route brgan maiden journey on Saturday after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated it through a videoconference. ‘Panchagarh Express’ set out from Bir Muktijoddha Sirajul Islam Railway Station in Sadar Upazila where Railway Minister NurulIslam Sujon was present. The train completed its 593-kilometer journey in 10 hours. It left Panchagarh at 12:15pm and reach Dhaka at 10:35pm. From there, it will leave at 12:10am and reach Panchagarh at 10:45am. On its way, the train stopped at Ruhiya, Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, Parbotipur and Dhaka’s Airport Railway Station. The fare as Ekotaexpressand Drutojan express. Thirty percent seats of the train allocated for Panchagarh, 30 percent for Dinajpur, 25 percent for Thakurgaon and 15 percent for Parbotipur. 10 police personnel awarded in Rangpur Range
RANGPUR: Rangpur Range of Bangladesh Police today awarded its 10 personnel and four organisations with medals in recognition of their professional and organisational excellence in discharging duties. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) for Rangpur Range Police Devdas Bhattacharya distributed the awards at the monthly crime, law and order assessment meeting for April-2019 held at his conference room in the city on Sunday. He distributed medals among the police personnel and organisations of all eight districts under Rangpur Range to further inspire police forces in performing their duties better to maintain peaceful law and order situation. Superintendent of Police for Rangpur Mizanur Rahman received the best organisational award on behalf of Rangpur district police. Rangpur B Circle of the district police, Rangpur Traffic Police Unit and Taraganj Thana of Rangpur were awarded as other organisations for best performances during the month of April, 2019. The awarded 10 police personnel are: Sub-Inspector (SI) Mashiur Rahman of Taraganj Thana and SI Faruk of Pirganj Thana in Rangpur, SI Monirul Haque and ASI Shawkat Ali Siddique of Gobindaganj Thana and Inspector (Investigation) Majibar Rahman and SI Nawshad Ali of Sadar Thana in Gaibandha, Inspector (Investigation) Al Mamun Muhammad Nazmul Ahmed of Biral Thana in Dinajpur, SI of Rangpur DB Police Moniruzzaman, SI Anisuzzaman of Aditmari Thana and Constable Mossarraf Hossain of Kaliganj Thana in Lalmonirhat. Additional DIG (Admin and Finance) Md Mazid Ali, Superintendents of Police from Rangpur, Panchagarh, Thakurgaon, Kurigram, Nilphamari, Lalmonirhat, Dinajpur and Gaibandha districts and other police officials were present, reports BSS.
