Goods worth Tk 50 lakh gutted in Sylhet

A fire burnt down valuables worth about Tk 50 lakh in enar collage road Market in Bianibazar upazila early Saturday. Sources said the fire originated from a tailors shop in the market around 4 am and soon spread to other nearby shops, leaving five shops burnt.On information, a fire fighting unit Sylhet rushed to the spot and doused the blaze with the help of locals. Fire service sources said the loss resulting from the blaze would go up to Tk 50 lakh.
BCL activists’ tendons severed in Sylhet
A group of unidentified miscreants have allegedly severed the tendons of both legs of a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist at Shah Paran gate in Sylhet city on Friday evening. Officer-in-Charge of Shah Paran police station Shakhawat Hossain endorsed the information to the reporter. The victim is Ponki Miah, a HSC student of Sylhet Government College and a BCL activist of Shah Paran Thana unit. Eyewitnesses said a group of miscreants came to Shahparan Gate area riding on motorcycles attacked Ponki around 7pm and stabbed him indiscriminately. The attackers cut the tendons of his two legs and fled the scene, they added. Later, Ponki was rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital till filling report.
School ransacked, fund looted in Barisal

Unidentified miscreants on Thursday early hours mysteriously ransacked the office room of the headmaster of Barisal Town School and looted Tk. 60,000 from the steel-almirah and set fire there. The fire was extinguished after marked by the staff and police visiting the spot at first detained the school clerk, but later released him.Mrinmoy Bepari, Headmaster of the hundred-years old school, said Rehana Begum, a fourth class employee of the school, at about 8:00 AM Thursday informed that sign of flame coming out from the office room of the headmaster. Then he rushed to the spot found that lock of the room was broken and with the help of other staffs extinguished the fire. In the fire attendance registers of teachers and students and other paper documents were damaged, the headmaster told.
Fire guts 10 shops in Gournadi  
At least ten shops gutted and properties worth Tk 15 laks damaged in a fire-accident in Gournadi upazila of Barisal on early Wednesday. Sajjad Hossain, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said, fire instigated from short circuits at a cloth store, gutted ten shops including jewelry, cloth store, library, hardware and grocery shops at Shakokati Mishuk-stand Bazaar of the upazila at 2:30 AM Wednesday.Fire service from Gournadi rushed to the spot controlled the flame at about 4:00 AM Wednesday with the help of locals. The affected businessman claimed damages worth Tk. 15 lakhs, police sources said.
Fire arms, drugs seized in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a raid seized a double barrel rifle and 135 bottles of phensidyl syrup from Nangla villege under Devhata upazila of the district on Friday. Acting on a tip-off, a team of the elite force conducted the drive at a house of one Mujibul Hoque of the village and arrested his son Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, 40, with the arms and contraband drugs. A case was recorded with Devhata Police Station in this connection, reports BSS.
