Arrest of AL leader’s killers demanded

Ex-AL lawmaker and Kaliganj upazila AL unit convener Abdul Mannan and the victim’s brother Topon Ghosh arranged a press conference at Jhenidah press club demanding arrest and ensured security of the victim’s family on Friday morning. At the conference ex-AL lawmaker and Kaliganj Upazila AL unit convener Abdul Mannan read out the statement while ex-Kaliganj upazila AL Secretary Israil Hossain, panel mayor Rezaul Islam , UP chairman Joynal Abedin and Bangubandhu Projonmo League central Vice President Saiduzzaman who were seriously injured were present there. In a written statement he claimed that victim’s brother Topon Ghosh had filed a case accusing 49 persons. After filing the case they had been suffering insecurity. Besides, ex-AL lawmaker and his loyalists are sustaining the same situation. He added that the accused are at large. Police is indifferent about the killer of Kola union AL president Ananda Mohon Ghosh.
Truck torched in Juri

A truck was set ablaze at Bhuhaibazar area in Juri Upazila of Moulvibazar district area here at 7 pm on Thursday , 10th day of the nationwide indefinite transport blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance. Juri police station officer-in-charge, Hamidur Rahman said miscreants set fire to a truck in the area at about 7am. On information, a fire fighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame. However, no casualty was reported.
Woman crushed to death by train in Sirajganj
SIRAJGANJ: A woman was crushed to death by a train in Jhaul area of Kamarkhand upazila on Friday morning. The deceased could not be identified immediately. Witnesses said the woman was hit by the Khulna-bound speedy train from Dhaka while crossing the rail tracks in the area around 11am, leaving her dead on the spot. On information, Railway Police recovered the body and a case was filed in this connection, reports UNB.
Winterclothes distributed in Chuadanga
Chuadanga: Winterclothes were distributed in 10 villages, including Darshona and Choikuri village under Chuadanga district to aid more than thousands of people in those rural areas. “A team of 14 members had set out for the winter donation deprived eastern district of Chuadanga on January 2, 2015 to hand over the warm clothes,” said Footsteps Foundation co-founder and president Shah Meem Rafayat Chowdhury yesterday. He said, “Winter in Bangladesh is getting harsher by the year. With the conditions rapidly worsening, people, especially those who are in absolute poverty, have been suffering greatly. Therefore, for the second year in a row, youth empowered social business based organization Footsteps Foundation had launched the ‘ A Heartwarming Winter’ programme to help out these underprivileged people adapt to the bitter cold” , reports BSS.
11 BNP- Jamaat men arrested in Jessore

The police in an overnight operation rounded up a total of 55 people including 11 leaders and activists of BNP and Jamaat -e-Islami marking the ongoing 20- party alliance agitations on Thursday. Of the arrested three are from BNP and 8 from Jamaat-e-Islami including Ayub Hossain, amir, Benapole Municipality unit Jamaat-e- Islami and Sultan Ahmed, amir, Bhaberber ward unit of the party under Benapole port police station, Reshma Sharmin, assistant superintendent of police confirmed.
Student killed in Khulna road mishap
KHULNA: A madrasa student was killed in a road mishap at Gabtola area under Khalishpur police station in the city early yesterday. The deceased was Abdullah, 8, student of Khadizatul Kobra Hafizia Madrasa. Police and local people said, the accident occured around 8.00am when a Khulna bound passenger bus of Sunderban Paribahan from Dhaka ran over the child while he was crossing the road. He died on the spot.The bus was seized but the driver managed to escape from the scene. A case was filed with Khalishpur Police Station in this regard.
Protesting the accident agitating people blocked Khulna-Khalishpur road for one hour, reports BSS.
