Ummeara Memorial Fund scholarship distributed
The money and certificates distribution ceremony of Ummeara Smriti fund was held at Seminar Room of FMPE Division of Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute (BARI) on Wednesday. A total of 37 meritorious students of different classes of BARI High School were awarded with the scholarship this year, says a press conference. BARI Director General Dr. Abul Kalam Azad was present as chief guest on the occasion and handed over money and certificates among the students. BARI Director (Support Service) and President of the Ummeara Memorial Fund Dr. Madan Gopal Saha was presided over the function while Director (Research) Md. Abdul Wahab and Director (Planning and Evaluation) Dr. Babu Lal Nag were present as special guest. Senior scientists, officers, employees, teachers and students of BARI high school, guardians, among others, were also present at the program .
Medicine shops, food factory fined Tk 14 lakh in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI: Ten medicine shops and a food factory were fined Taka 14-lakh here yesterday afternoon on charges of possessing andselling of date-expired and sub-standard medicines and injections and manufacturing of food items in unhygienic condition. A team of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) led by Executive Magistrate Nizam Uddin conducted a raid in different parts of the city. The team found the shops including Royal Pharmacy, Jaman Pharmacy, Al Nur Pharmacy and Old Rajshahi Pharmacy involved in possessing and selling of the date-expired food supplements and medicines. Subsequently, the mobile court fined the shop owners Tk eight lakh in total and realized the money instantly. In another drive, the mobile court has also fined Bishal Food Industries Taka six lakh at BSCIC Industrial Estate on charge of producing and processing food items in unhygienic condition on Sunday. The court also seized huge quantity of banned items during the two drives. Magistrate Nizam Uddin said such drive against the violations of consumers’ rights will be continued, reports BSS.
Workshop on Strengthening Gender Equality held in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A sharing workshop on Strengthening Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in Wash in Bangladesh (SOMOTA) project was held at the conference room of Sadar upazila parishad of the town here on Tuesday. SKS Foundation, a local reputed non-government organization, organized the workshop with UNO Uttam Kumar Roy in the chair. Sadar upazila parishad chairman Shah Sarwar Kabir addressed the function as the chief guest while representatives from local government bodies, rights activists and officials, among others, were present at the function. Funded by Department of Foreign Affairs Australia and supported by World Vision Bangladesh, the project would continue in the unions of the upazilas till December, 2022 and as many as 19,361 beneficiaries of the district would be brought under the project, the project sources said. To promote the condition of safe water, sanitation and health habit for girls and children in schools and people with differently able, a number of organizations including upazila parishad, upazila administration, upazila health department, social services department and education department would work as stakeholders, they added, reports BSS.
