College student killed by miscreants in Bogra

 A student of Government Shah Sultan College Student was killed with sharp knife by unidentified miscreants at Jalewsharitola area near Altafunnessa Playground in Bogra at around 7.30 am on Wednesday morning. The deceased was identified as Shona Mia, 25, son of Abdul Wahed of Shaghata upazila of Gaibandha district and a fourth-year student of English department of Government Shah Sultan College of Bogra living at Star Chattrabash of Dabtola in Malgram area in Bogra town. His friend Al-Amin said that he had been going to Altafunnessa Playground to practise football and on the way to the play ground by his by-cycle; some unidentified miscreants hacked in his throat to death. On information, police rushed to the spot and sent the dead body to Shaheed Zaiur Rahman Medical College and Hsopital (SZMCH)’s morgue for autopsy.
Fire guts 10 shops in Gournadi

At least ten shops gutted and properties worth Tk 15 laks damaged in a fire-accident in Gournadi upazila of Barisal on early Wednesday. Sajjad Hossain, Gournadi police station officer in charge, said, fire instigated from short circuits at a cloth store, gutted ten shops including jewelry, cloth store, library, hardware and grocery shops at Shakokati Mishuk-stand Bazaar of the upazila at 2:30 AM Wednesday. Fire service from Gournadi rushed to the spot controlled the flame at about 4:00 AM Wednesday with the help of locals. The affected businessman claimed damages worth Tk. 15 lakhs, police sources said.
Founding anniv of Kaler Kantha celebrated

The 6th founding anniversary of Bengali National daily Kaler Kantha was celebrated in Bagerhat district town on Saturday in a befitting manner. On this occasion a colourful rally was brought out from Bagerhat Press Club premises led by Al-haj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsha, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 and Md. Hayatul Islam. Additional Police Super of Bagerhat paraded the main roads of the district town and ended at the same place. It was followed by a cake cutting ceremony. After that a lively discussion meeting held in the Press Club with its President Adv. Shah Alam Tuku in the chair.. It was addressed among others by Md. Hayatul Islam, Additional Police Super, Bagerhat, MohsinTalukdar, district information Officer, Bagerhat, Adv. Md. Mozaffor Hossain, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Babul Sardar, Abdul Mannab, Bagerhat Sadar Upazila Primary Education Officer, Prof. Mahfizur Rahman, Secretary General, Bagerhat Press Club, Prof. Asifuddin Rakhi, Shawkat Ali Babu, Manjurul Islam Manu, Kamruzzaman, Yamin Ali,, Injmmul Haq. All the speakers while spoke on the occasion gave much emphasis on publishing objective, unbiased, impartial and constructive news. They wished that the Kaler Kantha would do so in order to serve the country and her people. Earlier on the occasion Saiful Islam, the founder and Headmaster of Adarsha Shishu Niketan, a primary level School of village Baraguni under Chitalmari Upazila in the district was ceremonially honoured by the daily Kaler Kantha as a devoted, dedicated and the best teacher of the district.
2 arrested with yaba, phensidyl in Laxmipur
LAXMIPUR:Chandraganj Thana Police in a drive arrested two alleged drug peddler with yaba tablets and phensidyl from Chandraganj Bazaar under Sadar upazila last night. The arrested were Joy, son of Dulal Chandra of Dhannapur village of the upazila and Suken Karmokar, son of Badal Karmokar of Muradnagar area in Comilla district. On a tip-off, a team of police from the thana conducted the drive in the Bazaar area and arrested the duo with 150 pieces of yaba tablets and 13 bottles of phensidyl, said officer-in-charge Humayan Kabir. A case was filed in this connection, reports BSS.
