Two jailed with huge shrimp pollen, hilsa fry

 A team of river police seized 4 lakhs shrimp pollen ( Renu Pona) and 12 mounds Jatka (hilsa fry) and detained three persons from a trawler at near Char Kella in Hizla River on early Saturday. Sheikh Bellal Hossain, Sub Inspector of river police station at Hizla, confirming the report said after detaining them, they produced before the mobile court led by Aminul Islam, upazila nirbahi officer of Hizla on Saturday morning. The court sentenced Kamal Hossain, 40, Swapan Talukdar, 38, of Purba Ilisha under Bhola district to one year imprisonment and sent to Barishal central jail on Saturday afternoon. The court released another one as aged under 18-year after taking bond, police sources said. The arrestees confessed that they collecting shrimp pollens and hilsa fries from Bhola were going to Shariatpur.
RCC hands over renovated auditorium to Zila Parishad
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) handed over Shaheed AHM Kamaruzzaman Zila Parishad (ZP) auditorium to Zila Parishad here on Tuesday.The city corporation had started the necessary renovation works on theauditorium on November 4, 2011 at an estimated cost of Tk 4.69 crore. The then ZP administration gave the responsibility of implementing the development work to RCC due to its shortage of technological knowhow and manpower. Recently the works were completed at a cost of around Tk 4 crore and RCC authority handed over the auditorium to Zila Parishad authority formally at a simple function at RCC’s Mayor Office. City Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, Zila Parishad Chairman Muhammad Ali Sarker and its Chief Executive Officer Ahsan Habib, RCC Chief Executive Officer Shaogatul Islam and Chief Engineer Ashraful Haque were present on the ceremony. Engineer Ashraful Haque said that work on infrastructure development,installation of seats, electricity supply and sound system were completed, reports BSS.
Locals building wood bridge at own initiative in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: The construction of a 240-feet wood bridge is underway on the Ghagot river at Uttar Narayanpur Bekatari village under Ballamjhar union of Sadar upazila in the district. With the initiative of the local people, the bridge is being built on the Ghagot river for smooth movement of people. Students of the areas used to face problems while going to their respective academic institutions located at the district town. M. Alamgir Hossain, an entrepreneur, said the locals are building the wooden bridge over the river voluntarily, to remove the sufferings of people. The estimated cost of the bridge will be Taka one lakh, he said local people are bearing the expenses of making the bridge. Luma Begum, a female member of the union parishad (UP), said, “It is very essential to construct a brick-built bridge over the river for a permanent solution, reports BSS.”
