Torture of females protested

Three voluntary organisations on Saturday morning forming human chain covering black veil on face protested torture against women. The programme was organised by Lal Sabuj Society, Uchchhas and Barishal Blood Donors Club in front of Ashwini Kumar Hall in the city. Male and female participants of ths silence programe carried placards bearing slogans protesting torture against women, demanging prevention of that crime by speedy trial and exemplary punishment against the torturer criminals.
Two-day science fair begins in Brahmanbaria
BRAHMANBARIA : A two-day Science Fair began on Saturday on the premises of Sadar upazila parishad on the occasion of the 40th national science and technology week. Local lawmaker RAM Obaidul Moktadir Chowdhury inaugurated the fair at a function as the chief guest while Sadar Upazila Nirbahi officer Pankaj Barua presided over it. Teachers, officials from different organization, representatives of local govern bodies, among others, were present at the function. As many as 36 stalls have been set up at the fair. A good number of visitors including students and ICT experts thronged the fair. Organizers told BSS that the science fair will encourage young learners to invent science and ICT-based innovation to build a technologically advanced Bangladesh, reports BSS.
Infrastructural dev to ensure quality edn stressed
MEHERPUR: State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain on Saturday said the government has attached priority to the construction of necessary infrastructure for ensuring quality of education. “Infrastructural development at the educational institutions will play a key role in improving standard of education,” he made the comment while unveiling the foundation stone of academic building at Mohajanpur High School in the district. Officials of local administration and different other organizations, among others, addressed the function with acting deputy commissioner Toufiqur Rahman in the chair. The state minister said despite a number of challenges, Bangladesh has some remarkable and praiseworthy achievements in the education sector. “Distribution of free textbooks among the students of primary and secondary levels, increased enrolment rate and eradicating gender inequality in primary and secondary education have already been acknowledged in different international forums,” he added. The Education Ministry sources said the construction works of nearly 33,000 buildings are underway to remove infrastructural problems at the educational institutions, reports BSS.
Agri-input distributed among farmers in Jashore
JASHORE: Keshobpur upazila administration of the district and local office of Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) jointly distributed agri-input including seeds and fertilizer among marginalized farmers recently. Under the incentive programme, these agricultural inputs were distributed among 430 poor farmers at Keshobpur Upazila Parishad for Aush paddy cultivation. Each farmer has got five kilograms (kg) seeds of paddy, 15-kg DFP fertilizer and 10-kg MOP fertilizer.Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Mohadeb, officials of different organisation concerned, among others, were present on the occasion, reports BSS.
