Detectives arrested two including a prison guard and seized 200 pieces of yaba from Rajshahi Medical College Hospital’s gate area recently. The arrestees were identified as Masud Rana, 30, attached with Rajshahi Central Jail as a robationary prison guard and his accomplice Afzal Hossain, 39. They were sent to jail on Thursday through a court order after a case filing under narcotics control act in this connection. Masud has been selling yaba pills to the prisoners with highly cost for a long in association with Afzal. Afzal got introduced earlier with Masud when he remained as a prisoner in the jail. Several cases including drugs, arms against Afzal were lodged with Charghat police station, said Asraf Ali, officer in charge (Investigating) of Rajpara police station.
Shab-e-Barat observed in Bagerhat

The holy Shab-e-Barat known as the night of fortune was observed in Bagerhat district town and it’s all the nine Upazilas as elsewhere of the country on Sunday night with due religious fervour and devotion. The Muslim devotees spent the night at mosques and homes offering prayers, reciting from the holy Quran and seeking blessings to Allah for long life, peace, progress and happiness for themselves, their families, relatives and friends as well as for the nation and Muslim Ummah. Muslims consider Shab-e-Barat as one of the three most sacred nights and believe that on this night Almighty Allah decides the fate of the human beings fixing their ‘riziq’ (livelihood) for the next year. Many devotees visited graves and prayed for the peace of the souls of their beloved ones who are no more. A large number of devotees visited the holy shrines of the great saint Hazrat Peer Khaja Khanjahan Ali (peace be on him) at his holy shrine, five kilometers away from here and offered Fateha. Traditional foods like handmade rice-bread with beef and halua were distributed among the neighbours, relatives and the poor in the evening. Many Muslims observed fast on the following day. The Islamic Foundation of Bagerhat and other religious organisations chalked out daylong programmes including discussion meeting, Hamd, Nat, Milad, Zikir and Doa on the occasion of the Holy Shab-e-Barat.
Workshop on Autism Awareness Day held in Joypurhat
JOYPURHAT: A workshop on Autism Awareness Day was held at the Conference room of the Deputy Commissioner in the district town on Tuesday. Acting Civil Surgeon Dr Rashed Mobarok chaired the workshop organaised by the District Civil Surgeon Office this morning marking the World Autism Awareness Day. The World Autism Awareness Day is being observed in Bangladesh as elsewhere around the world. The theme of this year’s Autism Awareness Day is ‘Assistive Technologies, Active Participation.’ with a pledge to bring the people suffering from autism and other disabilities into the mainstream of development. Dr Moniruzzaman Manik presented the key note paper at the workshop while Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Jakir Hossain, Dr Tulshi Chandra Rao, Dr Shohid Hossain and Education Officer Choiti Rao, among others, spoke on the occasion. The speakers underscored the need for creating awareness of autism awareness among guardians to bring specially-abled people to the mainstream of the society.
