Speedy trial of Nusrat killing demanded

From a human chain comprising teachers, employees and students of Jashore University of Science and Technology, demand of speedy trial in the Madrassah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi killing case on Tuesday. Dr Professor Anwar Hossain, vice chancellor, JUST, in his speech, during the human chain said ensuring speedy trial the government should an example in the murder case. the human chain was also attended among others by Iqbal Kabir Jahid, president, Teachers Association, JUST, Dr Md Nazmul Hasan, general secretary, Dr Selina Akhter and Dr Md Amjad Hossain.
RCC launches eviction drive against illegal occupation
RAJSHAHI: Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) has started eviction drive against all sorts of illegal occupation yesterday aimed at reducing public sufferings with easing the pedestrian movement on footpaths in the city. Led by Executive Magistrate Somor Paul the city corporation launched the drive from Masterpara area evicting large number of infrastructures which were erected on public lands illegally. Magistrate Samar Paul told the journalists that the drive will be carried out in all areas till April 25. Earlier, a public notice was served to free all the public places and footpaths from all kinds of illegal occupations within April 14. Samar Paul added that the city corporation has started cleanliness campaign recently and the eviction drive is being conducted as part of the campaign, reports BSS
20 shops gutted in Kurigram fire
KURIGRAM: At least 20 shops were gutted as a fire broke out at a market in central bus terminal area of the district town early Sunday. Monzil Haque, deputy assistant director of Kurigram Fire Service, said the fire broke out at the tin-shed market around 1:30am. On information, three fire-fighting units rushed in and doused the fire after two and half hours of frantic effort, reports UNB.
Woman gives birth to septuplets; all die shortly
LAXMIPUR: A woman gave birth to seven babies at a clinic in Laxmipur municipal area on Friday night and all of them died shortly afterward. Five-month pregnant Nazma Akhter, wife of farmer Raju Ahmed of Laharkandi union of Sadar upazila, was admitted to Janata recently with labour pain where she gave birth to four daughters and three sons around 11pm normally. However, the premature babies died after 2-3 hours of their birth, said hospital sources, reports UNB.
Inmate dies in Sirajganj jail
SIRAJGANJ: An accused in a drug case died in the district jail recently.The deceased was identified as Abdus Sattar Sheikh, 60, son of Jahed Sheikh hailing from Railway Colony of Sirajganj municipality. Jail super Al Mahmud said Sattar Sheikh suddenly fell sick in jail in the morning and was taken to Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib General Hospital where he died at noon, reports UNB.
Man killed in Jhenaidah clash
JHENAIDAH: A man was killed in a clash between two groups of villagers over a trifling matter at Bashantapur in Shailakupa upazila early Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Ratan Mandal, 25, son of Rahen Mandal of the village. Kazi Ayubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shailakupa Police Station, said the branch of a tree collapsed on the house of Rahier Mandal as a nor’wester lashed in the district on Tuesday night, reports UNB.
