The World Water Day was observed in a befitting manner in Gopalganj recently. District Administration and Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), Gopalganj jointly organised the programme. The theme of the day ‘Pani Sobar Adhikar Bad Robe Na Keu Ar’. On the occasion of the day they brought out a coulourful rally and changing slogans and the rally paraded main roads in the city. After rally, a discussion meeting was held at DC Office Conference room in the city. Mohammad Mukhlesur Rahman Sarker, Deputy Commissioner , Gopalganj spoke as Chief Guest. Chowdhury Emdadul Haque, President, District Awami League , Gopalganj, Mohammad Saidur Rahman Khan, Superintendent of Police , Gopalganj, Mahbub Ali Khan, Secretary, District AL, Gopalganj, Kazi Liakat Ali Leku, Mayor, Gopalganj Municipality were present as special guests. Where Shanti Moni Chakma, ADC (Gen), Gopalganj presided the chair. Earlier, Bishwajit Baidya, Executive Engineer, BWDB, Gopalganj delivered welcome address.
Man fined for selling spurious drugs in Chandpur

A Mobile Court fined a medical representative Tk 10 thousand on charge of his attempt to sell spurious drugs to a drug dealer at Shahrasti Upazila on Sunday afternoon. The spurious drugs were damaged in front of the local people. The accused man was identified as Khorshed Alam Chowdhury,48, son of late Abu Hamid , a resident of Taltoli village under Kochua Upazila of the district. Sub Inspector A K Azad said, Representative Khorshed came to sell drugs at a very low rate to a drug dealer Billal Hossain – owner of Modina Farmacy at Kaliapara area in Shahrasti Upazila at around noon today. This aroused doubts in the mind of drug dealer Billal Hossain who then carefully examined the capsules contained in two boxes and suspected that the capsules are spurious/fake, though they have outer labels of Square Pharmaceuticals. So, he informed Police about it . Sub Inspector A K Azad and Town Sub Inspector Khorshed Alam rushed and took the accused representative Khorshed Alam Chowdhury and the drugs to Shahrasti Thana. Square Pharmaceuticals Medical and Sales Promotion Officer was also called in. It was then discovered that the capsules of Khorshed Alam Chowdhury are spurious , though they apparently look almost like those of Square Pharmaceutical Company. Khorshed gave confessional statement to Police and Magistrate.
Austami Snan held at Chilmari Ghat

A day-long traditional Annual Astami Snan and a religious bathing festival of Hindu Community ,the second biggest holy bathing in the country was held at Chilmari Ghat of Brahmaputra River at Chilmari Upazila of Kurigram on Sunday from early in the morning with due respect . More than three lakh of Hindu devotees including male, female and children from many parts of the country as well as India and Nepal arrived here by buses, trucks, private car, rickshaw and mechanized boats. President of Chilmari Puja Utjapan Committee Dr Salil Kumar Barman said. However, the devotees who came here took holy bath in the Bramaputra River in commemoration of saint Parshuram who had bath on this eighth day of Lunar month in the river Bramaputra and freed himself from sin as he killed his mother Renuka Debi by an axe at the order of his father Jamadagni according to Hindu believe.
