Tornado ransacks five villages in Joypurhat

BSS, Joypurhat

A severe storm ransacked five villages under Panchbibi upazila of the district on Tuesday afternoon. At least 21 people were injured and around 500 houses damaged by the storm which continued one and half an hour. The villages are Noada, Somsabad, Baguan, Danejpur and Dharonji. Hail also damaged a huge crop’s field in those villages. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Razibul Alam visited the spots. The injured people were admitted to District Adhunik Hospial. Most of them were injured due to tree or wall collapse, locals said.

Prize giving ceremony held in Dupchanchia

Prize- giving ceremony and cultural function of Dupchanchia Sammilito Pre-Cadet School was held at school ground on Tuesday. The function was presided over by Principal of the school Emdadul Haque while president of the school Alhaj Abdul Ali was present as Chief Guest of the function . Vice-president Alhaj Mubarak Ali, President of Press Club Golam Faruk, former Principal Ibrahim Khalilullah, lecturer Shamim Ahmed, Towez Uddin, Hafizar Rahman, Noor Alam and others spoke on the occasion. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners of sports competition, fifth grade scholarship and GPA 5 students. At the end cultural events were held. The entire program was conducted by assistant teacher Mizanur Rahman.

BGB seizes goods worth Tk 1 cr in Benapole

Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) seized a truck of Indian sharees, three pieces worth Tk 1 crore 33 lakh from Monirampur upazila Bazar area of Jashore district on Tuesday night. But they could not arrest any smugglers at the time. Lieutenant Colonel Salim Reja , Commanding Officer, 49 Border Guard Battalion said that tipped off the BGB men seized a loaded truck and recovered these items. The smugglers fled the scene after seeing the presence of the BGB. The seized goods deposit to Jashore custom’s godwon. A case was filed in this connection.

Workshop on SDGs held in Rangpur

 A workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Health Sector, Population and Nutrition (4thHPNSP) Programme was held at R,DRS Auditorium in the city on Monday . Md Ashadul Islam, Secretary, Health and Family Welfare Ministry was present as chief guest in the event. He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina instructed doctors and nurses to be present in the hospitals in time. Prime Minister warned if any doctor found doctor and nurses found absent in work place , drastic action will be taken against them. Md Deen Islam, Deputy Head, PMMU, delivered the welcome of address. Among others, Civil Surgeon Dr Gakirulm Islam Lalin and Rangpur Madicale Collage Principal Pro Dr Nur Alom were present .
