Fire damages Barisal BRTA godown

The locked godown of Bangladesh Road Transport Authourity Barisal office situated at the ground floor of the office of Deputy Commissioner , Barisal was damaged by fire on Thursday evening.Hasibul Ahmad Dipu, station officer of Barisal fire service and civil defense office, said they rushed to the spot at 5:17 PM Thursday after informed about breaking out smoke, heat and flame from the BRTA godown.We found smoke and flame coming out from the locked godown of BRTA and three units with 31 personal succeeded to extinguish the fire within 20-minutes before causing any severe damage, the fire service official told. Primarily if was assumed that electric short circuit may instigated the fire. But later it was informed that the godown has no electricity connection and so the incident inside locked godown may be an attempt of sabotage. The cause of fire could be determined only after investigation, the fire service official told.
Fake DB man arrested in Rangpur

 Police arrested a fake DB police from Grand hotel intersection area in the city on Wednesday morning. The arrested person was identified as Shahidul Islam Sumon(30),son of Mayser Ali hailed from Kaliganj upazila under Lalmonirhat district. Sub-Inspector of Rangpur Kotwali police station Hossain Ali told journalists that getting complaint from several victim police arrested him. The fake DB man had been cheating people, especially the businessmen, claiming himself as an OC of DB police.
Trucks, vehicles vandalised in C’nawabganj

Two trucks were torched, three trucks were vandalised and more than 20 auto-rickshaws were ransacked in Shibganj and Chapainawabganj sadar upazilas on Thursday. Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Shibganj Irtiza Hasan said, 81 trucks loaded with imported goods were taken from the port under the guidance of police, RAB and BGB at 7 am. Police and eye witnesses said, the pickets made attack on these trucks with brick bats and cocktails at Moslempur, Academy Square and Mohodipur under Shibganj upazila and broke the glasses of three trucks. Additional superintendent of police Al Mamun said, as a truck was taking diesel at a filling station at Mohodipur under Shibganj upazila at around 9 am, pro-blockade activists torched it. As police forces rushed to the spot, the pro-blockade activists threw cocktails on police. A police member identified as Sohel Rana was injured there. He was rushed to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. Again, the blockaders threw a patrol bomb on a truck loaded with stone at Shibtala at around 11-00 am and at this the truck was set on fire. Driver of the truck Babul Sheikh, 40 and helper Mamun, 20 of Natore were injured and were admitted to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital. Fire fighters, on information, reached the spot and put out the fire. Police arrested one person with a cocktail from the spot. Besides, blockaders ransacked more than 20 autorickshaws at different points of Chapainawabganj town, police said.
10,200 pieces blankets to be distributed in Dinajpur
DINAJPUR: Some 10,200 pieces quality blankets to be distributed soon among the cold-hit people of Dinajpur district. Hammadul Baki, an official of the Dinajpur district Relief and Disaster Management, told BSS that the blankets were donated by the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund on Thursday for distribution among the cold- hit people of the district. Last month, more than 25,538 pieces warm clothes, including blankets, children clothes, sweaters and jackets were distributed among the people to mitigate their sufferings. Besides, the district administration has also bought about 10,000 pieces warm clothes for children of the district. DC Ahmed Shamim Al Razi said well-off people, different NGOs, banks, insurance companies and business establishments have separately distributed about 60,000 pieces different kinds of warm clothes during the month of December, reports BSS.
