Fire at SUST hall

A fire broke out at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology at 11pm on Friday. Resident students said, ‘The incident took place at the hall’s A-Bloc. The firefighters of Sylhet Fire Service station rushed to the spot and doused the blaze’. Students of the hall expressed their anger as none of the university administration visited the hall. Sylhet fire service station officer Shimul Mohammad Rafi said ‘The fire broke out from out side of the hall’. The provost of the hall professor Dr SM Hasan Jakirul Islam said ‘after hearing the news I tried to contact with police, fire-service and gas offices but I could not reach no of them over the phone.’
ISKCON temple fined for cutting hill
International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) temple, situated in Sylhet has been given a monetary fine on charge of cutting hills illegally. A mobile court served the temple a fine of Tk 27,500 recently. A team of Department of Environment (DoE) conducted a drive at Kajalshah in the city and found that the ISKCON authority cut a portion of a hill illegally for erecting boundary wall, said Hafizur Rahman, assistant director of DoE. Later, the mobile court fined the temple.
Child drowns in Chandpur pond
CHANDPUR: A three-year old boy drowned in a pond at Montala village in Faridganj upazila on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Fahim, son of Motahar Hossain of the village. Family sources said Fahim fell into the water body unnoticed around 9 am while playing near the pond. Later, locals traced the body floating on the water and rushed it to Haziganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctors declared him dead, reports UNB.
Holi’ Festival celebrated in Bagerhat

Hindu community celebrated the Holi festival in a befitting manner in Bagerhat district town on Thursday. On the occasion members of the Hindu community, mainly the youths and children in large number went out of their houses and sprinkled coloured water on friends and relatives. They were in festive mood throughout the festival. A good number of youths of the Muslim community also participated in the Holi festival.
Old man beaten to death in Jashore

An old man was beaten to dead allegedly by his son at Galda village in Monirampur upazila of Jashore district on Friday night over money related dispute. The deceased was identified as Tajul Islam Patwary, 65. The deceased was identified as Tajul Isla patwary 60 son of late Hasan Ali Patwary of the village. The accused son Anwar Hossain (35) Flee from the house after the murder of his father. Sahidul Islam, officer in charge , Monirampur police station said, that Tajul’s two sons Anwar Hossain and Humayun Kabir, who work in Malaysia, recently they returned home. Two brother’s sent around 15 lakh to their father from Malaysia. After returning home when they wanted to know about the total amount of money from his father he failed to give the right answer. After returning from bazar Anwar Hossain again locked into an altercation with his father. At one stage, he hit his father with a Iron rod leaving him dead on the spot. Anwar flee after the incident said oc added. Police rescued the body and send it to Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed in this connection.
