Students Cabinet election held in Gouripur

The Students’ Cabinet Election was held successfully at all secondary schools of Gouripur upazila in Mymensingh district on Thursday . The vote casting process took place on the day from 9am to 2pm with a festive mood. On spot inspection confirmed a jubilant and all-around participation in the voting process at Gouripur Pilot Girls’ High School where 12 contestants fought for 8 posts while 1357 voters from class six to ten cast their votes. An onlooker team consisted with student-representatives observed the election process. Students-representatives who played role as election commissioners, presiding officers, polling officers and other officials conducted the voting process. Talking to the New Nation, the Chief Election Commissioner of Gouripur Pilot Girls High School, Punnata Nowreen said that free, fair and credible election was held and this event would introduce democratic attitude among the students

Century-old tradition-bearing Sylhet Press Club (SPC) awarded Senior Journalist Muhammad Amjad Husain for his outstanding long 26 years’ journalist career with joint auspices of Lutfur-Laila Foundation established by Sylhet Press Club’s former member and expatriate Journalist Mr. Enam Chowdhury living in U.K. On this occasion, a colourful ceremony was arranged jointly by SPC and the Foundation at Sylhet Press Club Aminur Rashed Chowdhury Memorial Auditorium on Saturday noon, in which Sylhet City Corporation Mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury attended as chief guest. Mayor Arif said, “The Journalists are pioneers in society. They work for the socio-economic-cultural development, uplift human value and bear the flag of truth and justice”. He called upon the journalists to work relentlessly for the welfare of nation and state. The Mayor said, “Sylhet Press Club has been perform many benevolent duties and activities to maintain century-old tradition of the club including honouring and giving crests to senior journalist. By honouring journalist Muhammad Amjad Husain the Sylhet Press Club leaders uphold the tradition of undertaking benevolent activities”. Held at noon on Saturday at Aminur Rashid Chowdhury Memorial Auditorium, of the club building at Subidbazar in Sylhet city, it was presided over by Somoy TV, Sylhet Bureau Chief and President of the Club Mr. Ekramul Kabir and conducted by Ekattar TV Sylhet Bureau Chief and Secretary of the club. The ceremony was addressed among others by former President of the Club Harunuzzaaman Chowdhury, Columnist Aftab Chowdhury, Expatriate Journalist Nazmul Islam Bason, Senior Vice- President of the Club Enamul Haque Juber, Vice- President M.A Hannan, former General Secretary of the club and News Editor of Sylheter Dak Samarendra Biswas, Executive editor of Daily Jalalabad. Abdul Kadir Tapadar, Sub editor of Sylheter Dak Abdus Sabur Makhon, Cultural Secretary of D.U.J. Abul Kalam, former Treasurer of the club Aftab Uddin, Probat Bela Editor Kabir Ahmed Shuhel, Story writer Shelim Awal, former Library and Publicity Secretary of the Club Abdul Muquith Opi, Sports and Cultural Secretary Mr. Nur Ahmed, former Sports and Cultural Secretary Ahbab Mustafa Khan, and Gulam Mortuza Bachchu. The ceremony began with the recitation from the holy Quraan by Senior Member of the club Md Abdur Razzak.
Former Member of the club and U.K based expatriate Journalist Enam Chowdhury established Lutfur-Laila Foundation after his father Hafez Moulana Lutfur Rahman Chowdhury and mother Mrs Laila Chowdhury. According to the contract between the foundation and Sylhet Press Club, a renowned journalist of the club will be given award with crest every year. For the first venture, veteran journalist Mohammad Amjad Husain has been selected by the club’s executive committee. Moulana Chowdhury attended the ceremony. The ceremony turned into a get-together of senior and incumbent journalist of the club. In his Chief Guest speech Mayor Arif said, “Expatriate Journalist Enam Chowdhury made a unique example”. He hoped that Sylhet press Club will be provided with his co-operation all time”.

Divisional level orientation meet held in Rangpur

Orientation meeting of Joint Action Plan For Nutrition Outcome (JANO) Project was held in the conference room of Divisional Commissioner of Rangpur recently. With the leadership of Divisional Commissioner Plan International Bangladesh organised the event. Objective of the meeting is to deliver a holistic concept of JANO project among the participants so that they can get a clear understanding of this project. Another objective is to pull the expected cooperation from government institutions and other organisations for successfully implementation of this project. Mohammad Jainul Bari, Divisional Commissioner, Rangpur was present in the meeting as chief guest while Dr. Hrishikesh Sarker, Divisional Manager (Acting) of Plan International Bangladesh was present as special guest. Dr. Amal Chandra Saha, Director Health, Rangpur Division presided over the meeting. The meeting started with welcome speech by Dr. Hrishikesh Sarker. Basana Marma, Nutrition Specialist of Plan International Bangladesh presented an introductory report of JANO project. An open discussion session was held followed by presentation where participants got clear concept on this project.
