Colombia to allow Venezuelans to enter on expired passports

Colombia will allow Venezuelans to cross the border using expired passports in view of the difficulty of renewing travel documents in the neighboring country in the midst of its economic crisis, the migration agency said on Friday.
More than 1.2 million Venezuelans fleeing widespread food and medicine shortages and a complex political crisis have migrated to Colombia in recent years, overtaxing the South American country’s already-limited public healthcare, housing and utilities.

Buhari looks to consolidate at state polls

Nigerians go to the polls on Saturday for the second time in a fortnight for governorship and state assembly elections, against a backdrop of tensions and fears of violence.
Elections for governors are being held in 29 of Nigeria’s 36 states, for all state assemblies, plus the administrative councils in the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja.

Nicaragua oppn mulls pulling out of crisis talks

The opposition in Nicaragua announced Friday it would reconsider whether to continue crisis talks with President Daniel Ortega’s government seeking, after the country’s bishops declined to participate in the process.
The head of the opposition Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy, former diplomat Carlos Tunnerman, said at a press conference following the close of an eighth round of talks that it would immediately “rethink the negotiation.”

US protesters demand ‘regime change’ in Iran

Hundreds of people turned out in Washington Friday demanding regime change in Iran and denouncing “atrocity toward the people” under Tehran’s regime.
Protesters waved Iranian flags as they chanted for “regime change now” -with some holding portraits of Maryam Rajavi, leader of the People’s Mujahedin, an Iranian opposition group banned in the country.
“The regime inside Iran is doing so much atrocity toward the people. Iran in whole has been destroyed by this regime,” said Michael Passi, an Iranian-American engineer.
