Agri Tech Fair wears festive look in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA : Agriculture Technology Fair-2019 wore a festive look as huge number of people from all strata including farmers’ community thronged the fair at Independence Square of the town on Friday afternoon. Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) has arranged the three-day fair launched on Thursday under the project of ‘Nutrition and Food Security Ensuring through Integrated Agriculture Development’ in cooperation with district administration. In the fair, a number of modern and latest agri-technologies are being displayed for the visitors through demonstration on the earth and multimedia On Friday afternoon, huge number of people from all sections particularly the farmers including female ones visited the fair with festive mood and got familiarized with the technologies. Lal Miah, a farmer who came from Barobaldia under Malibari union of Sadar upazila, said they came to the fair to get acquainted with the modern agri technologies which would help them to produce bumper production of the crops, vegetables and fruits. The presence of huge number of people in the fair is a good sign of the fair, said Deputy Director of DAE Showkat Osman. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Matin inaugurated the fair on Thursday afternoon and General Secretary of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Abu Bakar Siddique was present as special guest, sources said, reports BSS.
4-day shadow UN conference begins in RU
RAJSHAHI : A four-day long shadow United Nations conference, under the theme “Be imbued with humanitarian strength through activating against violence,” began on Rajshahi University campus yesterday. The United Nations Youth and Student Association of Bangladesh (UNYSAB), a UN model platform for the nation’s young people, organised the conference, which was inaugurated at 4.30 pm by the chief guest Professor Saidur Rahman Khan, former vice-chancellor of RU and former Bangladesh High Commissioner to UK, at the university senate building. Praising UNYSAB’s young organisers, Prof Khan in his speech upheld the importance of such initiatives, and gave the participants clear views on the UN, its work, goals and activities. Around 350 students and 25 judges from 58 educational institutions in both home and abroad are taking part in the four-day event. Assistant Indian High Commissioner in Rajshahi Ajoy Kumar Mishra, RU Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Ananda Kumar Shaha and Student Advisor Professor Laila Arjuman Banu, among others, are special guests. The event includes a general assembly akin to a UN session, campus tour and culture programme on the first three days, and the closing ceremony will be held on day four, reports BSS.
‘Robber’ lynched in Pabna
PABNA : A suspected robber was killed in a lynch-mob attack at Potirajpur village in Ishwardi upazila early Saturday. Bahauddin Faruqi, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, said that a gang of robbers numbering 10/11 looted valuables from a house at the village around 1:30am.When the robbers attempted to enter another house owned by Hafez Tajul Islam at the village, the house inmates started to scream. Hearing screams, locals rushed in and chased the robbers and caught one of them. The angry mob gave him good a good thrashing, leaving dead on the spot. On information, police recovered the body, said the OC adding that the deceased could not be identified immediately, reports UNB.
