Two workers killed in Sirajganj mudslide

Two workers were killed and five others injured in a mudslide while working at the site of an under-construction building of a primary school in Sirajganj municipality area recently. The deceased were identified as Belal Hossain, 62, of Charkura village, and Jelkat, 68, of the same village of Kamarkhand upazila. Officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station Rafiqul Islam said a group of seven workers were digging soil for the foundation work of the extended building of Dhanbandhi Govt Primary School at Dhanbabandhi. Suddenly, a chunk of mud fell on them around 3:30pm, leaving them injured. They were taken to hospital where two of them succumbed to their injuries, the OC said.
Sewing machines given to rural poor in Chandpur

On behalf of the Prime Minister , Chandpur Zila Parishad and local MP Dr MK Alamgir, ( Chandpur-1) handed over sewing machines to fifty poor but enterprising rural women of Kochua Upazila that they all could be self -reliant economically and thus maintain their family properly. In this connection, a simple ceremony was held at the premises of Aliara Government Primary School at Aliara village in Kochua Upazila on Sunday afternoon. Chandpur Zila Parishad Panel Chairman and Kochua UZ AL Mohila leader Rownak Ara Rotna was in the chair. Renowned social worker and AL leader Md Delwar Hussain was the chief guest on the occasion. Local AL leaders- Md Shafiqul Islam, Abu Taher, Engn A Mannan, Kochua Press Club General Secretary Jishan Ahmed Nannu, Aliara Government Primary School Headmaster Md Tajul Islam, among others, spoke on the occasion. In their speeches, all the speakers appreciated the role of the Government for taking up this pro-people project for poverty alleviation of the rural poor women in Kochua. Then the chief guest and other guests handed over the sewing machines to the beneficiaries. Local elite, political leaders, teachers, pressmen and family members of the beneficiaries were present on the occasion.
29 held from Faridpur hotels, jailed
FARIDPUR: A mobile court here sentenced 29 people, including 13 women, to seven-day imprisonment for their alleged involvement in antisocial activities on Wednesday. The mobile court, led by Sadar upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Parvez Mallick, conducted a drive at two residential hotels — Rangdhanu and Gulshan Palace — in the district town . During the drive that last till 2:30pm, it detained 31 people from the two hotels. Later, the mobile court jailed 29 of them and sent the rest two to safe home as they were underage. The convicts were later sent to jail. Executive magistrate Parvez Mallick said such type of drive will continue to build the district town as a beautiful, clean and drug-free one, reports UNB.
Construction worker dies in Chandpur
CHANDPUR: A construction worker died after falling off the rooftop of an under-construction building in the district town on Monday. The deceased was identified as Alamgir, 35, son of ObaidUllah of Sholla in Faridganj upazila. Witnesses said Alamgir suddenly fell down from the 4th floor of the under-construction building while working there and died on the spot. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue, reports UNB.
