Girls did better in Sylhet Board JSC exam

In Junior School Certificate Examination results under Sylhet Education Board, grils have surpassed the boys this year, though last year boys topped the girls. In SEB the percentage of pass of JSC this year was 91.57 per cent, while total number of recipients of GPA-5 was 4,010. Abdul Mannan Khan, Controller of Examinations of SEB announced the results of JSC through a press conference held at conference room of the board yesterday morning. The press conference further revealed, a total of 1,09, 485 candidates appeared at the JSC examinations this year of whom 1,00,255 came out successful. Of the successful candidates 91.38 per cent are males and 91.72 are females. Of the total 4,010 GPA-5 recipients.Top Ten Schools: Jalalabad Cantonment Public School and College topped the list of the best schools in this year’s Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination held under Sylhet Education Board attaining 92.68 points. Sylhet Cadet College stood second with 91 points, Govt. Agragami Girls High School, Sylhet achieved third position with 84.81 points, Sylhet Govt. Pilot High School got the fourth position with 83.40 points and Govt. High School, Habiganj became fifth with 80.43 points.
2 Shibir men held
The police have detained two Shibir activists when they brought out processions in Sagor Dighipar area of the district on Monday . The detainees are Saidur Rahman Rafi and Imadadullah. Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rahmant Ullah said: ‘The police will take tougher stance if the hartal supporters try to create any violence in the area.’The half-day hartal in Sylhet called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance protesting the arrest of their party leader Dr Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury is underway peacefully.The hartal began at 6am and it will end at 12pm on Tuesday.

Girl commits suicides after JSC failure
CHANDPUR: A girl allegedly committed suicide at Char Rampur village in Faridganj upazila on Tuesday as she could not pass this year’s Junior School Certificate (JSC) examination.The ceased was identified as Nasrin Akter,13, daughter of Taslim Bepari, a resident of the village. Police, quoting family members, said Nasrin, who had appeared at this year’s JSC examinations from Rampur Majidia High School, went to the
school in the afternoon to know her result that was published on that day. Later, she returned home upset as she failed in the examination and hanged herself from the ceiling of her room. On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Chandpur Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy, reports UNB.
9 Jamaat-Shibir activists held in Jhenidah

Police have arrested 09 Jamaat-Shibir men from different upazilas of the district On Thursday early hours. Of them 2 from Moheshpur, 5 from Horinakundu and 2 from Kotchandpur upazila of the district. SP Altaf Hossain of Jhenidah said, 9 Jamaat-Shibir activists had been arrested from different upazila on Thursday early hours as they might create subversive activity in the town.They have been sent to Jhenidah jail on Thursday noon through Jhenidah court.
Fire in Charkulia Bazar in Mollahat

Properties worth Tk.33 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Charkulia bazar under Mollahat Upazila in the districtrecently, according to a report received here. It is learnt from the police and the locals that on the day in the early hours the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in a shop of spare parts of bi-cycles belonging to one Sabed Ali of the bazar spread to its 2 adjacent shops and went out of control within moments. On seeing the flame of the fire and on hearing hue and cry the neighbouring people rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control after a long fighting for about 2 hours.
