World Radio Day-2019 celebrated in Sylhet

February 13 was the World radio Day. This year the theme was “dialogue, tolerance and peace”. Keeping this view, Bangladesh Betar was observed this day with very glorious and colorful events in Agargaon, Betar premises. Twenty youth leaders from seven different ethnic and excluded groups such as Garo, Santal, Hajong, Khasia, Mahato, Dolit and Horijon were participated in the events. As part of celebration, there was a rally, discussion session, listener’s clubs convention, and cultural programs. There were some beautiful stalls from listeners clubs, Betar bangla (Betar’s magazine), Post Office and Ethnic and excluded minorities groups who were displayed their products in the stall as well. Honorable Information Minister Mr. Dr. Hasan Mahmud and Information Secretary Mr. Abdul Malek were graced the occasion. The rally was started at 11:00 am by minister and secretary of the information ministry along with director general of Bangladesh Betar, other high official of the organization, members of listeners clubs, broadcaster, singer, artist, composure etc. from all walks of life in the society.

BMS Rangpur unit celebrates founding anniversary

RANGPUR: The Rangpur district unit command of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangshad (BMS) celebrated founding anniversary of BMS yesterday recalling the gallant role of freedom fighters in liberating the country from Pakistani clutches in 1971. Senior officials and civil society figures joined the celebration along with the freedom fighters as the function yesterday was chaired by former Commander of BMS Rangpur district unit command Mosaddek Hossain Bablu. “The nation will be indebted forever to the freedom fighters . . . the best sons and daughters of the soil,” Rangpur’s Divisional Commissioner Muhammad Joynul Bari aid inaugurated the celebration by cutting a cake at District Muktijoddha Complex Bhaban. The discussion, also joined by Deputy Commissioner of the district Enamul Habib, was followed by a colourful ‘Ananda Utsab’ and cultural function. Freedom Fighters Sadrul Alam Dulu, Golam Mostafa, Matiar Rahman, Haji Md. Atiar Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman, Jasim Uddin Ahmed, Abul Masud Chowdhury, Azizul Islam, Mostafizar Rahman, among others, spoke. The speakers said the freedom fighters never thought of getting something in return while fighting against the Pakistani occupation forces to liberate the country, reports BSS.

KCC official gets 5 yrs in prison for embezzlement

KHULNA: A tribunal here on Monday sentenced an official of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) to five years’ imprisonment for misappropriating around Tk 10 lakh. The convict, Amirul Islam, in-charge of the KCC property section, was also fined Tk 925,453 and in case of failure, he will have to serve one more year in jail. He present in the dock when the verdict was pronounced. According to the prosecution, Amirul embezzled the money from November 1, 2007 to February 18, 2009. Then revenue officer of the KCC AKS Tasaduzzaman filed a case on March 17, 2009 against Amirul. Later, the case was transferred to the Anti-Corruption Commission. ACC deputy assistant director Aminul Islam pressed charges against him on February 24, 210. After examining the records and witnesses, judge of the Divisional Special Tribunal SM Abdus Salam handed down the judgment, reports UNB.
