Founding Anniv of Jugantar celebrated

The 20th founding anniversary of Jugantar, a Bengali national daily was celebrated here in a befitting manner on Friday morning under the auspices of Bagerhat district Jugantar Swajan. On the occasion a colourful rally that was brought out from Bagerhat Press Club premises paraded the main roads of the district town and ended at the same place. It was led by Md. Zahirul Islam, ADC (ICT) and in-charge of Deputy Commissioner, Bagerhat. It was followed with a lively discussion meeting held in the auditorium of Bagerhat Press Club with Kumar Dip, President of Jugantar Swajan, Bagerhat in the chair. In the address of welcome its (daily) Bagerhat correspondent Shawkat Ali Babu explained the policy of the daily and the importance of holding the founding anniversary. Md. Zahirul Islam, in-charge of DC, Bagerhat while was addressing the meeting as the chief guest requested the journalists to publish accurate, objective and constructive news items in their respective news medias for the betterment of the country and as well as for her people. He wished the longevity and prosperity of the daily. Md. Shahdat Hossain, Additional Police Super of Bagerhat, Al-haj Abdul Baki Talukdar, General Secretary of Bagerhat Press Club and Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Bagerhat correspondent of the daily New Nation and former president of the club addressed the meeting as special guests. It was also addressed among others by journalist Bisnupada Chakrabarty and Prof. Sujas Kanti. In order to mark the ceremony a founding ceremonial cake was cut ceremonially cut by the chief guest. Manas Talukdar, Secretary of Bagerhat Jugantar Swajan conducted the function.
Jatka seized, distributed among distressed

The members of Chandpur Coast Guard seized about 27 maunds of jatkas from different fishing boats in the Meghna River and the fish traders in Chandpur Sadar were distributed among the poorer and distressed people at Molehead area in Chandpur on Thursday noon. Additional District Magistrate Abdullah Al Mahmud Jaman distributed the seized jatkas and ‘tempu elish'(larger sized jatka) in presence of the Station Commander Lft Md Enayetullah , Coast Guard members and pressmen. Lft Md Enayetullah launched the drives against jatka , acting on tips off, in the Railway fish ghat in Chandpur town and different areas in Meghna river.
Robber beaten by mob in Gopalganj dies
GOPALGANJ: A suspected member of an inter-district robber gang died on Friday from injuries sustained during mob beating in the district’s Muksudpur Upazila. He succumbed to his injuries at Muksudpur Health Complex around noon. Police identified the man as Din Islam, 35, son of Babul Sheikh of Shelkhola village of the upazila. Muksudpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mostafa Kamal Pasha said two robbers – Din and Bashar Fakir – went to one Kamal’s house for robbery at Dignagar village on Wednesday night. Locals caught them during robbery bid and beat them up before handing them over to police. The men were admitted to upazila health complex. “Din Islam is a member of an inter-district robbery gang and accused in five robbery cases,” the OC said, reports UNB.
