UP chairman sent to jail for misappropriating VGF rice at Barishal

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested the chairman of Chandpura Union Parishad of Barishal Sadar Upazila for misappropriating 5.20 metric tons rice allocated for special vulnerable group feeding (VGF). Amanullah Aman, Chandpura Union Parishad Chairman was arrested on Wednesday noon from Chowmatha area of the city after an operation conducted by ACC with the help of police, said Abul Hasem Kazi, assistant director, ACC Barishal district office. He misappropriated 5.20 metric tons of rice received for distributing among the 251 poor families on Sep-Nov, 2016, said ACC official. ACC after investigation lodged a case with Bandar Police station under Barishal Metropolitan Police on November 27, 2018 and since the accused went on hiding from the area.
Student killed in Chandpur road accident

A minor madrasa student was killed as a speedy van (run by battery) loaded with poultry birds , hit him from behind and he fell upon the road and then the van ran over him causing serious injuries to him on Chandpur-Cumilla Regional Highway near Wireless Bazar -an outskirt of the district town, under Chandpur Sadar Upazila at 6 pm recently. The deceased was identified as Ahad Gazi, 10, a student of Nurani Section at Darus Sunniya Madrasa on Madrasa Road in the district town and son of Md Jahangir Gazi – a resident of Uttar Moishadi village under Chandpur Sadar Upazila. Witnesses said, the accident took place when the ill- fated boy was crossing the road. At once, the van driver and the locals took the seriously injured boy to Chandpur 250 Bedded General Hospital where the on duty doctor declared him dead at 6.30 pm.
Swechchhasebak League leader held in Sylhet

A local leader of Swechchhasebak League, ruling Awami League-backed volunteer organisation, was arrested in Sylhet recently in a case filed for taking money from a person as extortion. The arrested was identified as Pijosh Kanti Dey, senior vice-president of Sylhet district unit of Swechchhasebak League, the police said. The Kotwali police officer-in-charge, Mohammad Selim Miah, told that they arrested Pijosh raiding his residence in Kuarpar area in the city in the afternoon. ÔThe arrested was produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate court in the afternoon and the court ordered the police to send him to jail,’ the police officer said. Pijosh was accused in several cases filed with the different police stations in the city in connection with incidents of extortion, snatching and kidnapping, the OC added.
Hygienic sewerage management for clean environ stressed
RANGPUR : Experts at an orientation workshop have stressed on engaging coordinated efforts to ensure hygienic sanitation, drainage and sewerage managements for maintaining clean environment in Rangpur city. They said this at a daylong event arranged for members of the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Coordination Platform’ held at conference room of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) here on Wednesday, a press release said here . The RpCC with assistance of the UNICEF organised the event participated by officials and representatives of RpCC, different government and non- government organisations involved in the drainage and sewerage managements of Rangpur city. Mayor of Rangpur Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa attended the event as the chief guest with Chief Executive Officer of RpCC Akhter Hossain Azad in the chair while Chief of Rangpur and Rajshahi Regional Field Office of UNICEF Najibullah Hameem attended as special guest. Secretary of RpCC Abu Saleh Md Musa Jongi, its Superintending Engineer Amdad Hossain, WASH Officer of UNICEF Ruhul Amin and Project Manager of Sustainable Urban Wash Programme of Eco Social Development Organisation ATM Ruhul Islam, also spoke.
