Owl rescued , released in Sylhet

A collared owl was rescued from the road and released into the wild in Sylhet on Sunday. Pradhikar, an Animal Rights Organisation of Sylhet Agricultural University, rescued the injured bird from Electric Supply Road area in the city and released it at Sylhet Wildlife Conservation Centre. Mohiuddin Rifat, General Secretary of the organisation, said a student of the university spotted the injured owl on the road and informed Pradhikar’s rescue wing. ‘The bird might have been hit by a vehicle. After primary treatment, we released it,’ he said. Collared scups owl (Otus lettia), is locally called “nim pecha”. It is a small (23-25cm) owl, although it is the largest of the scups owls.
Two JMB operatives held in Rangpur
RANGPUR: Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)-13 arrested two presumed operatives of banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahedeen Bangladesh (JMB) from Pirjabad area in the city on Friday evening. “On a tip off, a special operational team of Militancy Cell of RAB-13 conducted a raid at Pirjabad area here and arrested the JMB militants red-handed with huge ‘jihadi’ books and leaflets,” a press release said . The arrested JMB operatives are Azizul Islam alias Salehi, 30, son of Abdus Sattar of village Panihara in Sadar upazila of Panchagarh and Shahnewaz Islam alias Nishat, 26, son of Nurul Islam of Pirjabad area in Rangpur city. “During primary interrogation, the arrested militants admitted that they were engaged in collecting tolls from innocent people by delivering wrong interpretation to continue their organisational activities and purchase arms and ammunition,” the release said. They regularly participated in secret organisational meetings, inspiring innocent youths to become members, enlisting new members locally, preparing database of their members, conducting trainings and other plans. “The JMB men delivered information about their planning for conducting subversive activities in the region, snatching money from NGOs and killing eminent personalities across the country, reports BSS.
Madrasa Assistant Super dies in road crash

The Assistant Superintendent of a Madrasa died on the spot when a goods -laden truck ran over him crushing his head and other parts at Tubgy area on Chandpur -Faridganj-Roypur Regional Highway in Faridganj Upazila recently. The deceased was identified as Maulana Yusuf Patwary,50, Assistant uperintendent of Lohaghora A R Girls’ Madrasa and a resident of Purbo Dhanua village under Faridganj Upazila. Like other days, Yusuf Patwary was coming from his home by his motorbike to Madrasa. When he reached the by- pass road just beside the under -construction bridge at Tubgi at around 10 am, suddenly he lost control over his motorbike and fell down from it and was run over by the running truck and at once his head was crushed leaving him dead on the spot. The by -pass road was mixed with a pool of blood. Angry mob put a road blockade for about two hours after this accident.
On getting the news, Faridganj Thana OC Harun- or- Rashid along with a Police team reached the spot and quelled the mob and cleared the road for traffic. The driver of the truck and the workers of the above mentioned bridge fled away from the scene. Police seized the truck. A case was filed . The dead body was sent to Chandpur 250- Bed General Hospital for post mortem. None was arrested.
