GPA-5 recipients accorded reception in Akhaura

Rabeya Khatun Smriti Pathaghar and Aksir Chowdhury Charity Trust situated at Dhaleswar village adjacent to Indian border in Akhaura upazila of the district has accorded a reception to GPA-5 recipients in JSC and PEC examination in the upazila. More than hundred meritorious students were honoured at a reception programme at the premises of the library on Friday noon. The function was attended by Poet Shahnaz Munni, Chief News Editor of NEWS24 television as the chief guest. It was chaired by M Aksir Chowdhury, a lawyer of Supreme court and addressed by Dr. Sarkar Amin, Deputy Director of Bangla Academy, Dr. Shoaib Jibran, Professor of Open University, Professor Dr. Jasmin Sultana, ATN Bangla reporter Sadia Mahjabin Imam, Bengali Academy officials Swakrit Noman, Mozaffar Hossain, journalist and poet Ferdous Mahmud as the as special guests. Brahmanbaria Press Club General Secretary Dipok Chowdhury Bappi was present on the occasion. The meritorious were given books, education materials along with crest by the invited guests.
Lyricist, dramatist Pijus Kanti Roy Chowdhury passes away

Renowned lyricist , reciter, dramatist, cultural personality and founder President of Bangabandhu Sangskritic Parishad District Unit Pijus Kanti Roy Chowdhury died due to cardiac arrest recently at Chandpur General Hospital. He was 71 -said family source. He left behind his wife , one son , one daughter and a host of friends and relatives to mourn his sudden death. He was also a listed member of the lyricists at Bangladesh TV and a member of Chandpur Shilpokola Academy. He was later cremated at his ancestral home at Mehar in Shahrasti Upazila. Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, MP, termed him as a distinguished person in a meeting organised in honour of him at the local Shilpokola Academy.
1800 farmers get seed, fertilizers in Gaibandha
GAIBANDHA: A total of 1800 small and marginal farmers of Sadar upazila got seed of maize, wheat, mustard and mungbean under Agriculture Incentive Programme during the Robi and Kharif seasons free of cost. The seed with fertilizers were distributed to the selected farmers of the upazila through Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE), office sources said. Of them, some 980 farmers got maize seed, 180 wheat seed, 520 maize seed and 120 mungbean with Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizers, said an official of DAE. For this purpose a function was organized by Sadar upazila agriculture office at its training room today with acting upazila agriculture officer Mosarrof Hossain in the chair. UNO Uttam Kumar Roy addressed the function as the chief guest. Sub assistant plant protection officer Abdus Sabur and sub assistant agriculture officer Mokbul Hossain Sarker spoke at the function, among others. The speakers said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is working relentlessly for overall development of the farmers since 2009. Later, the guests formally distributed mungbean seed and chemical fertilizers to 120 small and marginal farmers of the upazila for sowing it during the Kharif-1 season. Each of the farmers got 5 kg of mungbean seed with 10 kg DAP and 5 kg of MoP. All the SAAOs, public representatives, selected farmers and journalists were present on the occasion, reports BSS.
